Monte Tries to Save His Job (Durant)

Post#1 » by SNPA » Sat Mar 29, 2025 9:26 pm

Durant for DDR/Val/Spurs 27/Minny 31

Suns get a replacement scorer, a needed real big man -some salary relief- and two unprotected firsts to replenish the cupboard for moving off one year of Durant.

Monte tries to save his job. Pushes in for a single season.

Zach/Ellis/Keegan/KD/Sabonis with Monk as sixth man. That’s a team that could make a conference finals and hope from there.

Sac needs to send out about 10 mil more here.

Makes more sense as a LaVine trade IMO. (Though you probably need a third team atp)

Murray added to the OP makes it legal, keeping at least the Minn first in Sac.

I don’t think that’s the mix of assets the Suns will want. DDR is not fitting with Beal/Book. More importantly, doubt KD wants that.

Monte's job gets saved by adding another mid range scorer who doesn't address any of the Suns' weaknesses, one of the worst defensive bigs in the league in Val to one of the worst defensive teams in the league, and future picks from teams with two of the brightest young stars in the league who will be in their prime years when these picks vest?

You don't send out the Wolves pick. And you don't send out the Spurs pick. These assets are the ones you keep. If you're confident in your trade, put your own picks in there. If you think your own picks are going to be too valuable, then that tells you your trade isn't going to make a difference to this team and you should look elsewhere.
I want Durant on the Kings next season and take Deebo off (not suggesting in the same trade, although going to be super hard not to with salaries), but I'm not using the Wolves or Spurs picks.

I'd make Murray the centerpiece of this trade...

Murray, DDR, Valanciunas, 1 pick. DDR probably has to go to another team though, and i have no idea who wants him at this point

I wouldn't even trade Keegan straight up for KD. You have 1 year with KD, that's it.

Who in there right mind would do that? 1 year of KD that won't make a difference when subtracting what Murray does for the Kings on the defensive side of the ball.
That Kings roster wouldn't make the POs and all you've done is give away Keegan, your backup 5 and a pick. Admittedly getting DDR off the team is addition by subtraction.

Sabonis
KD
Lavine
Ellis/Carter
Monk

And a 2nd round pick.

So no salary cap space to sign anyone, there is no 1st round pick this year, and you've sold 1 future 1 in a KD trade so that limits what you can do in future trades as well, which you can't really trade for depth anyway unless you're paying someone to take on Lavine and break him up into several contracts, but wouldn't the goal be to make a run with KD?
