Mavericks and Cavs need to make this trade

Post#1 » by ImmortalD24 » Tue May 13, 2025 3:15 pm

Trade Proposal:
Mavericks receive: Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen, Darius Garland
Cavaliers receive: Anthony Davis, Daniel Gafford, Kyrie Irving, Caleb Martin

Who says no?
This deal could be a win-win. The Cavaliers get significantly tougher and more playoff-ready - something they clearly lacked against the Pacers. Anthony Davis instantly becomes the best player in the deal, giving Cleveland an elite defensive anchor and postseason championship pedigree. Kyrie Irving - enough said. Gafford adds rim protection and depth, while Caleb Martin provides much-needed wing defense and versatility. East being as weak as it is, they'll be the favorite come next season. We saw what Kawhi did when he had the chance in the Eastern Conference.

The Mavericks meanwhile pivot toward a younger core with Cooper Flagg as the next franchise centerpiece. With Mobley’s two-way potential, Garland a future suspect prospect given his toe issues (but he has potential), and Allen’s interior presence. It’s a smart play for the future.

Win now vs. build for the future. Everyone walks away happy.

This is terrible for the Cavaliers.

Even if you squint and say Mobley = Davis

Allen >>> Gafford
Garland >>> Martin

Disagree.

What if we add Kyrie into this mix.

Now
AD >>> Mobley
Kyrie >>> Garland
Gafford = Allen
+ Martin as a bonus

Who says no? The CBA lol Cavs are a 2nd apron team this summer, can NOT combine contracts in trades.

Should be on the trade board, but also, this deal is atrocious for the Cavs.

Like…realllyyyyy bad.

As a Pacers fan, I’d love to see it happen though.

Gafford doesn't equal Allen. Allen is signed to a team friendly deal for 4+ years, Gafford is an expiring contract.

I disagree about AD/Mobley.

They can if they end below the 2nd apron.

yea, honestly Bronny James for Garland almost makes more sense, if we're gonna propose crazy stuff.
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

This is a awful trade for the Cavaliers. I don't even think Davis is more valuable than Evan Mobley. Maybe there's something that can be work around when comes to Davis/Mobley swap, but the others parts of trade just makes this a nasty overpay for the Cavaliers. Like is Daniel Gafford even worth a 1st round pick at this point? Even if he was, he's worth a very late 1st at best, while Jarrett Allen is easily worth a lottery pick. Calab Martins value is nil, while Darius Garland is worth even more than Jarrett Allen.

This is terrible for the Cavs even with Kyrie added to the mix. Health and age matter.

That's not this trade. Mavs would be sending out $114 million (minus Martin) and Cavs would be sending out $98 million.

Not only is it am atrocious trade but it's not legal lol

I know.

You said "The cavaliers can NOT combine contracts in trades", which is very clearly a statement about all trades. That is false.

Replace Garland with Mitchell and we can sit at the table and talk. Otherwise no deal.

Wow, I've got no dog in this fight, but anyone who thinks that Kyrie on a single-year contract, where he's recovering from an ACL injury and can't play, holds much greater value than Garland sees the world so differently than I do that it's shocking.

The only trade that has any chance of happening is Flagg and the roster flotsam for Mitchell. The rest of this is pure fantasy.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

There are many things I disagree with about this proposal, but this is crazy to me. Mobley’s value is easily greater than AD’s. You take the 23 year old reigning DPOY over the 32 year old who would be lucky to ever have a season with enough games to even qualify for the award ever again every time.

Eh, really depends. If they retain Jerome at $14 million year 1 salary, and Merrill really at any number, it is essentially a true statement. Unless they're just gutting the team for picks.
