Blazers Begin Formal Process Of Selling Team

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue May 13, 2025 5:03 pm

The Portland Trail Blazers will be put up for sale by the estate of Paul G. Allen. Allen & Co and law firm Hogan Lovells will lead the sale process. The Boston Celtics recently sold at a $6.1 billion valuation.

The franchise has been run by Allen's sister, Jody Allen, since he passed away in 2018.

The Blazers recently signed Joe Cronin and Chauncey Billups to contract extensions.

Despite Paul Allen's wishes, they didn't want to sell it right away. Instead, they chose to drag Blazer fans around in the mud for half a decade and then lock them into one of the leagues worst GM/Head Coach pairings in the NBA. That mission complete, they are finally ready to sell... Jody Allen, I salute your ineptitude!!! :banghead:

Couldn't agree more! She could have sold to Phil Knight a few years ago and spared us all the trouble. I just hope the new owner renames the team The Los Angels Portland Trail Blazers so the league will start rigging things our way for once.

The value of the team has gone up over 2 billion in that half decade. Proceeds to go to a charitable trust. Sorry you were dragged through the mud but it seems like a shrewd move

How so? Paul Allen’s will stipulated that the component parts of his estate, including the Trail Blazers, be sold upon his death. That was almost seven years ago. Paul Allen was a great owner. What has transpired since his passing has been the antithesis of great. If anyone was disrespectful, it was Jody Allen. The person I was trashing is still alive.

Hmmm, a billionaire let an organization flounder for 6+ years so they could produce a larger tax write off and you call it shrewd?

Paul Allen wanted the proceeds to be donated six years ago; Phil Knight wanted to by the org at that time. Before you offer Jody sainthood, think of the good that could have been done with that money over the past six years. And while Paul wanted the proceeds of the sale to go to charity, did Jody keep the team profits over the last six seasons, or is that also going to charity. Her hanging onto the team, despite Paul's wishes, was shady from the get go. But the line between shrewd and shady is often blurry.

It is my belief that Paul wanted the team sold upon his death because he was passionate about the team's success and he knew his sister was not. Whatever her motivation was for hanging onto the team, it wasn't for love of the game and it wasn't to generate more for charity. It was 100% not what Paul Allen wanted.
