Wiz/76ers: Wiz move up to #3 in exchange for taking on PG13
Simple trade:
Wiz trade Middleton+Smart (both expiring)+6 for PG13+#3.
Wiz go up and take either Bailey or Edgecombe and agree to take on the extra 110 million left on PG13's last two years vs Middleton and Smart's expiring deals. Considering no FA will ever come to the franchise, they basically have to use their cap space on gambling on lotto picks. With the unlucky outcome last night, they have no other recourse than to move up for a potential star. Philly gets two useful expiring vets (Smart provides much needed versatile defense everywhere on the court) while Middleton plays a 6th man role. Philly takes best big available at 6 (Queen or Malauch) while dumping that 110 million.
Wiz hopefully think they can rehab PG13 with no one in the national media watching them.

This is probably really good value. But Philly should just keep the 3rd pick here imo.

#3 is best for 76ers long term. They probably require at least an additional protected future 1st to give it up.

I don't see it for PHI. Certainly they get back huge value in shedding 2 years of PG. BUT where does that leave them? It doesn't really give enough financial flexibility to build for the now and the less valuable pick hurts their building for the future.

Jazz can make this type of deal and offer #5.

I don’t think Philly picks this high again. So imo they need to take a direction — keep it or trade for win now. I don’t love diluting the return with paying to dump pg as cap space as in a rebuild normally gets non lotto picks versus access to this close to the top. Trading uo to 3 is very very hard normally, but value might be there.

This is the kind of deal where the value might be “fair” but it doesn’t really make sense because this doesn’t make Philly better now or in the future

Yes, I think this is the answer. Either attach it to *not* Paul George for a better player, or use it. Unless you truly don't believe in the players that are projected to go in your range.

Feel the same as everyone else. Either take the prospect you can't normally get or say we have an MVP and and all-star and we are pushing in on that.
I do really like this for Washington though. Paul George' contract is going to get ugly, but he's a great veteran to have to help your kids play in meaningful games and with a game that complements any player. It's smart for them even if you think the value is a little rich.

Philly do it if they think someone at #6 is as good as at #3. Otherwise they don't.

Re: Wiz/76ers: Wiz move up to #3 in exchange for taking on PG13
I don't really see a gap between #3 and #6 this year so I personally would think long and hard about this if I'm Philly. Kinda like it still for Washington though because they probably don't need the cap space any time soon. Interesting hypothetical to think about in the very least.

Regardless of Philly, 110M to move from 6 to 3 is a steep price, don't think is worth it for WAS.

Re: Wiz/76ers: Wiz move up to #3 in exchange for taking on PG13
Interesting concept. I guess it depends on what truly is the difference between #3 and #6 talent wise. From all I heard, there's a clear top 2. And though Ace gets hype, we're talking about a guy who played with another top 3 talent in college and couldnt even make the March madness tourney.

Re: Wiz/76ers: Wiz move up to #3 in exchange for taking on PG13
Great trade proposal.
For Philly, they get out of George two years in advance, because 100% he picks his player option at age 37...Dropping 3 spots in a draft where there is no clear cut prospect after 1-2 for the reward of saving $110 mn would make a lot of sense.
For the Wizards, it would make sense as long as their FO believe Ace Bailey or Edgecombe are worth eating up those $110 mn...

18 would have to be involved, and one of Smart/Middleton would need to be rerouted.

Hmm...~20 Million was recently dumped for 2nd(s). I think that's about right, maybe even too good for Washington.

Philly should stay put. It’d be cool for Washington, but considering Embiid might legit end up having to medically retire in 2 years Philly is actually doing really well to transition.

It's simply not comparable, this is a 3 year 30% max contract slot, instead of 2 smaller contracts for 1 year...
This is a cap killer contract, Wizards won't have any cap space for another 3 years instead of 1, for the privilege of picking 3rd.
They may really like someone at #3, like him enough to do it, but this is by no means trivial, Coulibaly will be starting a new contract while PG13 on the books...

The cost to move from #6 to #3 is an unprotected 1st with upside (Not OKC trading their unprotected 2026 1st, for example).
I don't know how much money a team would pay for an unprotected 1st with high variance, but I reckon it be a ton.

Mavs paid protected 1st to jump from 5 to 3 in 2018, and it was a much more hyped up draft, and way way more hyped up prospect, there is no fixed valuation, in 21, it would have taken more than unprotected 1st to jump from 6 to 3.
Hard to gauge value, last year the cost definitely wasn't that, I'm not sure this year, but every draft has tiers, but 2 years of 30% max is a very steep price and not trivial that WAS pays it.
