Spurs Plan To Select Dylan Harper Barring Blockbuster Trade

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon May 19, 2025 3:32 pm

The early indications are that the San Antonio Spurs plan to select Dylan Harper with the second overall pick unless they make a blockbuster move. The Spurs are prioritizing the best available talent at No. 2 over concerns of how Harper could fit alongside De'Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle in the backcourt.

Harper is the consensus second best prospect in the draft with the possible options behind him all considered to be substantially riskier.

The Spurs want to get Victor Wembanyama to the playoffs, but are not necessarily rushing their timeline. There has been trade speculation surrounding the No. 2 pick since the lottery whether it be a trade for another star, or a trade down, but it appears to be simply speculative at this point.

And with the second pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, the Milwaukee Bucks select Dylan Harper, guard from Rutgers University.

Basically. Is fox going to have to be included to make the money work?

No. If they do the trade, it's because they want Giannis, Fox, and Wemby playing together. And they'll do everything they can to keep Castle too. Plus, if the Bucks do the trade, that means they're going into full rebuild mode, and a team that's just starting a rebuild doesn't want a 28 year old Fox at his salary... especially not when they're going to use that draft pick to select a guard they hope will become a foundational piece for them. They can still make the money work by trading the contracts of some other solid young talent that would still be attractive to a rebuilding team, plus perhaps some additional draft capital, and some salary filler like Barnes. There's also a chance a 3rd team could be looped in to more easily smooth everything out.

No way that's enough for the Bucks to get back, San Antonio will have to be able to fork up more draft picks and young talent than that. OKC and Houston have way better chances of getting Giannis

SA, Brooklyn, and OKC have the assets to deal. I can't imagine the Thunder messing with what they have and Giannis would be all alone in a city where the Knicks have reclaimed their glory. SA makes too much sense for all parties involved, even the Bucks.
