TOR-WAS swapping picks

Post#1 » by aguiar95 » Mon May 19, 2025 11:46 pm

What would it take for the Wizards to move down to 9th? I look at the board and see TOR very eager to move ahead of New Orleans to draft Maluach and think Washington could still get their guy at 9th and get an asset from TOR (don't see WAS interested in Maluach/Queen and it feels too high for a Bryant/Kuneppel pick, one of them will be available a #9).

Which asset would do the trick: '26 TOR 1st (top-14 protected), Dick, Agbaji (TOR has a bunch of SGs and I assume they'll likely keep Walter they just drafted) or something else? So the trade would basically be:

WAS in: #9 (Carter Bryant), TOR asset. Move down while still getting a guy they like and an asset.

TOR in: #6 (Khaman Maluach). Move up and grab their preferred choice while not losing much on-court.

Carrington/Smart
Poole/Dick
Middleton/George
Bryant (#9)/Bey
Sarr/Sorber (#18)

Quickley/Shead
Barrett/Walter
Ingram/Agbaji
Barnes/Mogbo
Poeltl/Maluach (#6)

Lottery prediction

#1 Flagg
#2 Harper
#3 Bayley
#4 Edgecombe
#5 Johnson
#6 Maluach
#7 Knueppel
#8 Fears
#9 Bryant
#10 Jakucionis
#11 Demin
#12 Essengue
#13 Queen
#14 Murray-Boyles

Masai might love a guy so i cant say never, but i dont see a big enough difference between 6 and 9 to pay anything significant for it.

We can't know, but I too think he has the right target for Toronto. But that doesn't matter. If Masai loves a player then sure you pay something to move up. If he doesn't then yeah stay put.

I'm a firm believer that tiers is largely media/fan talk and that Masai and the FO will have a clear ranking where 6 on their board is higher than 9. Now enough to give enough up to get Washington to move back? We are all guessing.

but its about players not, not draft slots. This high its absolutely an OTC deal.

If Bryant is there at 9 then I’d rather just keep him. I only do this if both are off the board already.

Agree. I think they're much more likely to have their draft order, and just take BPA. Also, it's rare for a big to go from NCAA freshman to NBA rookie and see any significant court time. Maluach to me looks really talented, but really raw, and could well play more minutes in the Gleague than the NBA next year.

Have we ever seen this TOR front office moving up or down in the draft? Looking at TOR's financials next year, I think they might consider moving down (not up) because of how close to the luxury tax they are.

Why Bryant? I see him as an undersized PF.

I think if Toronto moves up it would be to target ACE or VJ. I dont think they pay alot to go from 9 to 6 if those guys arent there
