Bucks-Celtics-Nets :: huge trade but no Giannis

Post#1 » by zimpy27 » Sun May 25, 2025 12:13 am

Bucks get White, Porzingis, Tillman
Bucks give Lillard, MIL31FRP

Nets get Lillard, MIL31FRP
Nets give #26 and #36

Celtics get #26 and #36
Celtics give White, Porzingis, Tillman

Bucks give up a valuable unprotected FRP and Lillard to bring in help for Giannis now. They will be able to use $14m MLE and $5m BAE after this trade to add to the team.

Nets take on Lillard in to space and get a very valuable unprotected FRP they might use to get Giannis at a later date. They give up 2 of their 5 picks in this draft. Nets also bank on Lillard coming back on 26-27 season as an expiring to have value to trade or keep. Nets can tank another season in 25-26.

Celtics aim for a tax reset this season with Tatum down. They will add 4 draft picks with #26, #28, #32, #36 and they will have space under tax line to retain Horf and Kornet, with some leftover for an FA using $14m MLE.

Replace White with Jrue and it's probably closer.

This is atrocious for Boston.

Is it that far off? Dumping contracts in to pure capspace usually costs quite a bit. They are dumping $60m.

Yes those players have talent but are they really worth a ton more than the money they are to be paid? They aren't all stars, they are elite role players.

Maybe #19 goes to the Celtics instead of #26?

Are you considering the opportunity value for Celtics to open.$14m MLE to sign new FAs? Or to drop under tax?

What pick value would you want for White being dumped in to pure capspace?

Celtics wouldn't dump Derrick White into cap space and if they traded him then at least 2-3 first round picks are coming back to the Celtics. Celtics won't move Derrick White unless they got a godfather offer.

Ok well Nets can give #19, #26, #27

That's the 3 FRPs you want

Celtics could get a lot more for White than this. Orlando would easily beat that deal.

I could only wish that's all it would take to nab White. Would love to see him out of Boston.

Boston isn't doing this.

Just to give you reference of how Celtic fans view White, in a blow it up situation I suggested Reed Sheppard and #10 for White, with us helping facilitate getting Btooks off the Rockets with 28 or 31 for future SRP's. So a legit prospect and a lottery pick, and that's only if we are blowing it up. White has crazy value, and not just to us.

He's been a borderline AS the past two years, is an elite defender, and has turned into one of the better volume 3pnt shooters in the league right now. He doesn't get dumped into cap space, he's our 3rd best player and many want to keep him around at all costs.

What about the 25th pick and a swap?

The Celtics aren’t trading White for cap relief and late picks. He is a top 49 player on a team friendly contract. He is a keeper unless there is a really strong offer

I understand that salary savings have value, but it’d be pretty idiotic for the Celtics to chase value in that way with Derrick White. And adding 4 picks between 26-36 in the same year is not a positive thing. It very rarely works to ever try and develop that many rookies together
In that draft range where most players are busts anyway.

Dame doesn't get moved for cap space so cheaply. I also see no way Brooklyn entertains killing their '26 cap for peanuts.
