Sabonis to Pels

Post#1 » by nolaPELSfan » Sun May 25, 2025 2:38 am

#7, Herb Jones, & Dejounte Murray
for
Sabonis, #42, '26 & '27 Hornets 2nds

rosters after

Lavine/Derozan/Herb/Keegan/#7 (plenty of def bigs)
Keon/Lyles/Val

CJ/Murphy/Zion/Sabonis/Missi Elfrid/Boston/Reeves/Karlo/#42(Hansen Yang?)
Jose/Hawkins/Keon Brooks

Kings do it to complement their scoring and creating from Lavine an Derozan with Herb's all-world defense on a cheap deal and move up to #7.

Pels do it to get inside-out creation from Sabonis with Zion and get off of Dejounte Murray's contract.

You seriously think that the kings should be adding young prospects and picks for that?

OP should note the post was edited after a reply.

Sabonis for Herb/7/Murray would require
Sac to absolutely love a player at 7. As in they see a franchise type guy.

I don't think it should require that. Sacramento needs to make the judgement that this core is going nowhere and that #7 can result in the start of a rebuild. Likely it is one of Fears/Kneupel, both of whom have some very nice attributes. I'd certainly do this for Utah if Lauri were the ask.

Kneupel isn’t the type of player a team like Sac - in an immediately post Sabonis phase - should covet. Fears makes sense if they see a potential all star PG.

Would be interesting in the Kings could take Malauch at 7 to give them the defensive center they want.

With Murray and Jones on the team you can play LaVine with less concern.

Not the worst idea. Might pair it with a Dallas deal for Monk.

Can Zion play SF? I could've seen that in an ideal world, but I thought he was more of a combo-big than a forward at this point.

Yes Zion can play any position really, but you are who you can defend kinda, and Z is not the best defensive rebounder or great a guarding bigs, so i've often thought SF or maybe even SG could be his best position, given his teamates. For example imagine adding Zion to the Pacers- he'd fit amazingly at SF with a starting lineup like Hali/Nesmith/Zion/Pascal/Turner, because there are 2 big shooting ball-handling defenders in his backcourt, and 2 bigs who can take the interior d and rebounding pressure off who can both shoot 3's, which the guards can help reb as well. that is the perfect Zion build style imo.

I think Kings frontoffice and fans are in for a surprise when they ask around the league about Sabonis value. Something similar as Pelicans were with Ingram year before they traded him.

Ugh. His advance stats and combine athletic testing numbers are not good. He looks the part, the results just aren’t there. The bust potential is high in the top ten.

Wake up our dumbass owner ain’t approving that trade we’re gunning for the 10th seed and we won’t even reach that. Otherwise this is an easy yea as is any lottery pic for Sabonis (Toronto/Brookyn)

My faves are Queen, Boyles, Sorber, Newell, Essengue, Raynaud and Yang, honestly; but i thought a big ol goon might pair nicely haha (Gobert?). Could go Newell for the Chris Bosh-like defender.
