Paul Skenes and the Pittsburgh Pirates have yet to discuss a contract extension. Skenes is earning a second-year minimum salary of $875,000 this season.
\"That hasn’t happened,” Skenes said. \"This is about the here and now. I’m not in any rush for a decision to be made like that. I don’t think they are, either.\"
Skenes has been involved in trade rumors, which he doesn\'t believe at this time.
“What trade rumors?” he said. “I don’t think any of that is for real.”
The MLB\'s recent trend has been for young star players to sign long-term extensions where they exchange more money during their arbitration years in return for cost certainty for early free agent years.
