Russell Westbrook To Decline $3.4M Player Option With Nuggets

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Jun 13, 2025 1:40 pm

Denver Nuggets guard Russell Westbrook will decline his $3.4 million player option for next season and will opt for free agency. Westbrook signed a two-year, veteran minimum contract with the Nuggets last season, which included a player option for the 2025-26 season.

In 75 games (36 starts), the veteran point guard averaged 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Westbrook was a key reserve for the Nuggets most nights and started when Jamal Murray or Michael Porter Jr. were sidelined this season.

Following the Nuggets second-round loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, Westbrook said he was undecided on his playing future. By declining his option and opting for free agency this summer, Westbrook has given the indication that he plans to continue playing for a 18th NBA season.

Man, while I appreciate the energy & want to win, I can't help to hope he goes elsewhere. His turnovers cost the Nuggs a few games in the regular season and his inconsistent shooting is a negative for a team that struggles with consistency shooting the 3. If the Nuggs bench was better and Russ was the 8th or 9th guy off the bench, then it makes sense to have him back.

he cost them a few games but won them a few as well.
he was great playing 2 man w/ jokic. looked better than murray and jokic after 7 yrs.
he played great as a starter when nuggets starters were out.
aside from more $, im surprised if russ doesnt want to stay in denver.
most fans grew to love him for what he does bring to the court.
energy, attitude, pace.
and russ was more locked in on defense then he has been in yrs.
it was great to watch russ's redemption season that people instantly forget about once nuggets lost in playoffs.

He should sign with the Phoenix Suns to be their starting PG.
