A.J. Greer: Paul Maurice Elevates Every Panthers Player

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Jun 14, 2025 6:52 pm

Florida Panthers head coach Paul Maurice has guided the franchise to its third straight Stanley Cup Final appearance while transforming the team\'s culture since joining in 2022. Maurice achieved his 1,000th career win during Florida\'s 6-1 victory over Edmonton in Game 3 of the current series.

The veteran coach joined Florida after resigning from Winnipeg in December 2021, citing a loss of passion for the game. His arrival coincided with general manager Bill Zito\'s blockbuster trade that brought Matthew Tkachuk to Florida in exchange for Jonathan Huberdeau and MacKenzie Weegar.

\"Every single guy respects him so much. When he speaks, everyone\'s listening, and I think the team\'s really just bought into the culture that he\'s implemented,\" forward Sam Bennett said.

Maurice\'s Leadership Style Resonates

Players consistently praise Maurice\'s honest communication and ability to read team needs. The coach has maintained his approach despite winning the franchise\'s first Stanley Cup last season.

Forward Evan Rodrigues highlighted Maurice\'s direct communication style and motivational abilities. Veteran Tomas Nosek experienced Maurice\'s empathy firsthand after taking a costly penalty in Game 1 of the current Final.

\"He\'s a tremendous person. He said some things that he didn\'t need to say, but he said it. And that\'s what makes him, for me, a really, really good coach and a really good person as well,\" Nosek said.

Panthers Excel Under Maurice\'s System

Florida has compiled a 141-87-18 record under Maurice\'s guidance. The Panthers have become a destination for players seeking career revitalization, with multiple veterans posting career-best seasons.

\"Every player that comes into this organization elevates their game and gets to a certain point where you\'re like, \'Wow. Why wasn\'t he like this in the other organizations?\' It translates from the head coach,\" forward A.J. Greer said.

Maurice\'s flexibility in practice scheduling and game preparation has allowed players to maintain peak performance throughout extended playoff runs.
