Kings get Durant with Miami-Dallas

Post#1 » by LightTheBeam » Thu Jun 19, 2025 5:45 pm

Combining a lot of what has already been discussed + adding in Durant side.

Kings out: Monk, Demar, JVal, 27 Spurs 1st, 2 2nds
Kings in: Durant, Martin
Why for Sac? They refuse to tank. Why not actually go in for a guy who could potentially elevate them. Still need a point guard, but will have to look at using the MLE there.
MLE - LaVine - Keegan - Durant - Sabonis
Carter - Keon - Martin - LaRavia - Isaac Jones

Mavs out: PJ, Martin
Mavs in: Monk, 2nd
Why for Mavs? Often discussed. Get Monk, move some overlap. Still need another guard, they save 5 million here helping them re-sign some key guards.

Miami out: Wiggins
Miami in: DeRozan, 2nd
I've heard Wiggins, DRob, Rozier, + assets. Here they get DeRozan just for Wiggins. DeRozan isn't fully guaranteed for next year, so also saves them money if they want to attack free agency.

Suns out: Durant
Suns in: Washington, Wiggins, JVal, Spurs 1st
Suns owner doesn't want to tank. Here they rebuild the roster pretty quickly into more digestible trad-able pieces.
Beal - Booker - Wiggins - Washington - JVal
Allen - Dunn - O'Neale - Oso - Richards

values all seem reasonable enough if the Kings are willing to gamble on a KD who preferred to be somewhere else.

If that's what it takes to land Durant I don't see why Miami wouldn't figure out a way to get them a similar package. If it's about replacing PJ Washington who, while a nice player, isn't a star by any means, and JVal, who seems more like a body at this point, I'm not seeing it.

We know Miami wants Durant, whatever my personal feelings are about that, so I don't see them helping the Kings take him like that.

Ya I think it's a risk worth taking. The team on paper has two top 20ish players, another legit scorer, several really good defenders. Maybe they do nothing and Durant leaves in a year, it costs us Monk/1st to see that through. We move Sabonis next off-season and wait a year for LaVine to expire. If it works, then maybe he re-ups 2 years and we move LaVine + picks for another piece to compliment Durant/Sabonis.

Suns should be all over this.
I'd take JVal to the Mavs for Gafford, a different center look, Suns should prefer Gafford.

This is a reasonable take. But it sounds like Miami has put their offer forward and Phx isn't thrilled by it. This while not looking amazing, gives Phx two starting forwards + a stop gap center + a 1st.

I'd be interested in exploring a similar route for Miami. Here's my attempt -

Miami Out: Wiggins, Rozier, Jovic, 1-2 1sts
Miami in: Durant, Cody Martin

Phx out: Durant, Martin
Phx in: Mark Williams, Wiggins, Cam Johnson

Brooklyn out: Cam Johnson
Brooklyn in: Rozier, 1-2 1sts

Charlotte out: Mark Williams
Charlotte in: Jovic

PHX doesn't get an extra 1st here, but they get a younger center in Mark Williams rather than JVal. I personally prefer PJ>Cam Johnson, but I think those 2 are close enough.

Fanspo says PHX can't aggregate so it doesn't work, but I think it could work as a separate trade involving Martin, Williams, Jovic?

I think that becomes a little trickier due to salaries. But If there is a way to make that swap happen I love it for PHX.
