MIA/TOR - Barrett for Wiggins
Toronto gets Andrew Wiggins
Miami gets RJ Barrett
While Toronto is giving up the younger player, Barrett sharing the ball with Barnes, Ingram and Quickley is potentially too many mouths to feed, with Wiggins they hope for less is more approach in their starting lineup and for him to be reinvigorated in hometown environment as someone it seems his head has been in other places for years.
Barrett as playmaker beside Herro on the other hand could be appealing to Miami.

No, Miami is not helping Toronto get out of that Barrett deal. It's an absolute pass. Wiggins is a much better player.

Wiggins is just a much better player than RJ in almost every facet of basketball

Re: MIA/TOR - Barrett for Wiggins
I think Miami is owed at least one first, if not two.
Edit: thought Wiggins was expiring. I agree, value is similar, but I think Wiggins is a much more useful player for most teams.

Barrett and Wiggins are on the same money for the same length of time. They have similar advanced metrics. Barrett is 5 years younger. Why would Toronto have to add 1 or 2 first round picks?

This place is insufferable.

Apparently we’re supposed to ignore this and go by narratives when determining trade value.
I actually wouldn’t do this as Toronto as Wiggins doesn’t solve any of our problems and makes damn near the same amount of money

They don't. At the very worst this is an even swap. But when you take youth into account Barrett is the more valuable player. The only thing that makes it more of a toss up is if you think Wiggin's is going to turn down a 30 million dollar player option. But still...I think Barrett's youth makes up for it. He's still young enough to grow. Wiggins is 30. Its a what you see is what you get kind of thing at this point.
Why rely on nuance, facts and logic when you can bludgeon the other side with mindless repetition of "Duuur McDaniel's has potential
and still be treated as if you were reasonable.

Plus Miami needs more of a scoring punch. RJ can provide that. While also being able to help Herro handle the ball and play with Bam. I think OP's trade is good. For both teams.

You may have missed this but we just picked up a very efficient 20 ppg scorer. RJ Barrett isn't for us.

Norm put those numbers up as a #1 option basically since Kawhi was gone and is a major jump form the rest of his career. He returned to form in the playoffs. I think RJ is a younger, and just as good option-who is not owed a massive contract at the end of the year like Norm. He also actually passes the ball occasionally unlike Norm.

But unlike RJ we have Norm and don't have to give up a great perimeter defender for him. Norm is better than RJ, and I would prefer Wiggins to RJ. I'm gonna pass...

This
IMO Toronto's roster issue is that it has $100M/year tied up in 3 players (BI, IQ, RJB) without enough D and too much need to have the ball in their hands. Swapping Barrett for Wiggins doesn't really change that, and leaves even more of a log jam at the forward positions. I can see RJB contributing as an overpaid bench piece, but I can't really see that for Wiggins or BI.
As for the comparisons that have Wiggins better than Barrett, having also watched Team Canada for years, I just don't buy it -- they're the same tier.
In a no-win argument, the first poster to Let It Go will at least retain some peace of mind

Re: MIA/TOR - Barrett for Wiggins
This was a bad idea for Miami before the Powell trade and it’s a worse idea now. Wiggins actually has the skill set to match his role; RJ is a guy with a first-option mentality but third-option talent

I would riot if they included two picks for Wiggins.

This RJ narrative is outdated.
He has cut down his 1vs3 tunnel vision driving to almost nothing now. He is actively looking to pass on dives as well.
Just look at his assists...never over 3.0 in NY.
As a Rap, 4.1 the 1st year then 5.4 this past year.
He really has gotten much better and is a willing and good passer now vs head down drive only looking to score.
And even on defense he has improved. Masai even mentioned it saying "RJ told on himself that he can play good defense when focused on it. Now that's the expectation".

Re: MIA/TOR - Barrett for Wiggins
Not really a great fit for either team.
Miami needs Ware to turn into an all-star or need an upgrade at his position and /or a wing upgrade (ie moving up from a Wiggins to a Durant)
Love RJ, but he is a lateral move IMO
Meanwhile Raptors need elite playmaking. IQ is my guy, but he is a true combo guard. He can play in more of a pass-mode, but that sort of takes his edge away.

Toronto says no and LOL at suggesting the raptors have to add a “1st or two”. Just completely ridiculous.

I'd prefer to keep Stew and give Monte Morris
I'd really prefer to keep Morris and Stew and give the great Killian Hayes and 2nd round picks

Re: MIA/TOR - Barrett for Wiggins
The most likely outcome for Toronto is that RJ improves and comes back on a cheaper deal. I would guess they offer him a Poeltl level deal. This would give them enough room to bring back Agbaji on a cheap deal and have some roster continuity. They have a good squad of guys who want to prove themselves. The Raptors FO are testing the market to see what he'll get in the off-season. I have Poeltl, Barnes, Ingram, RJ, and IQ as one of the stronger starting line ups in the EC.
