Dump your overpaid PF/C on Charlotte for bite size pieces

Post#1 » by HornetJail » Fri Jul 4, 2025 5:21 am

Charlotte has 19 players, very few playable PFs or Cs, and a ton of the rest are 1-2 year contracts to role players less than the MLE.

Josh Green: 13.7M / 14.7M next year
Grant Williams: 13.6M / 14.3M
Pat Connaughton: 9.4M exp
Josh Okogie: 7.8M exp UNG until July 15th
Nick Smith Jr: 2.7M / [4.9M rookie TO]
DaQuan Jeffries: 2.7M UNG / 3.08M UNG
Charlotte has about 15 2nd round picks as well, as well as late 1sts (2026 worst of WAS/MEM/ORL/PHX, 2029 worst of UTA/CLE/MIN) for better offers, or our own 1sts, Miami's or Dallas's 2027 1sts for actually great players who could be core pieces.

What's out there for Charlotte to get on the cheap (asset wise)? Walking into next season with Bridges, Salaun, Grant Williams (injured), Diabate, Kalkbrenner, Plumlee as its only PFs and Cs is a recipe for disaster. An upgrade is needed.

I would trade for Claxton...and I think it would be a very good offseason, moving in the right direction.

Connaughton/Okogie/Smith or Mann+HEAT and Future SUNS FRP for Claxton

John Collins is an obvious answer so I will throw out another since Chicago drafted more frontcourt depth and could still add a backup center in free agency: Jalen Smith? Feels like a nice fit since he can stretch the floor a bit.

There has been a lot of talk about stretching Bradley Beal. I'm not sure exactly how far we can stretch him, but let's say it's possible to stretch him all the way to 7 foot he could probably play center for the Hornets.

John Collins + Kenyen Martin Jr ... For ... Wait for it... Lamelo Ball ...

Never going to happen, but could be interesting, Lamelo/Lauri combo unless Utah really do want a clean slate?.

Utah would owe significant compensation and it is a year too early to be pushing in like that.

Clarke (Mem) and Vanderbilt (LAL) should both be available.

That, and Lamelo is the last player I would want on the Jazz roster.

I say drop all the fodder on Michael Porter Jr.

Look to flip him.

Nets will want draft capital to take this dead weight but it all adds up to 6 million less than his 38 million owed. He's contracted next year as well.

Just as a placeholder and upgrade over Green.

Clarke is not available unless we are bringing in a even better frontcourt player. He is likely our week 1 starter with Edey out for sure and likely JJJ could be as well with the toe injury. We no longer have an immediate need to get off money.

Nick Richards is available if he can come back to the Hornets.

Agreed.

Would Hornets be willing to do something like this:

Grant <=> Grant Williams + choice of salary (Green or Sexton or ?)

Or
Grant <=> Bridges

Dean wade for Okogie and a 2nd might make sense depending if Cavs are trying to cut salary to get under 2nd apron.

Maybe a 3 team with Grant Williams, 2 1sts, and 4 seconds for Allen and Wade. With Kessler to Cleveland and Wade plus a 1st to Utah.

Cavs: Allen and Wade
Cavs: Williams, Kessler, 1 1st, and 4 2nds

Hornets: Williams, 2 1sts, and 4 2nds
Hornets: Allen

Jazz: Kessler
Jazz: Wade and 1st

this is the move I want to see. Claxton's defense, age and contract fits Charlotte nicely

They just trade William for 2 very late 1st round pick, and then immediately trade better value future firsts for Claxton? Cant understand the logic here.

They didn't like Mark clearly, his defence had gone and I'm guessing they didn't trust his health either.
Unless our new 2nd round pick, or the older 2nd round pick diabate suddenly become a decent starter we are relying upon 62yo plumlee to carry the load. So us fans feel desperate and the front office is straight out tanking again.
