Quentin Grimes, Sixers Still Apart On New Contract

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Jul 6, 2025 1:42 pm

Restricted free agent guard Quentin Grimes and the Philadelphia 76ers don't seem close to signing a new contract. There has reportedly been little to no movement between Grimes and Philadelphia on a new deal.

Grimes had a breakout season after joining the Sixers in a midseason trade. In 28 games with Philadelphia, the 6-foot-5 guard averaged 21.9 points on 47%, including 37% on three-pointers. Grimes also grabbed 5.2 rebounds, dished out 4.5 assists and snagged 1.5 steals per game.

The 76ers are about $2 million under the luxury tax and $10 million under the first apron with 13 players on their roster. Grimes has reportedly been looking for a $25 million a year contract, which would push Philadelphia past the first apron, and possibly over the second apron.

He's a nice two-way player and only 25 years old. Averaged 25-5-5 in the 28 game she played in Philly. Still, don't see the Sixers going to $25M/yr for him considering he'd likely be the 4th or 5th offensive option if the stars are playing. Still, he would provide nice perimeter defense for them. They're just not going into the 2nd apron for Grimes.

Yep the Sixers have their hands tied with PG and Embiid (yikes) contracts. Grimes may end up having to take a 1 year deal with a team like HOU or MIA.

He should’ve just taken the best contract available last week. I’m sure some team offered four years, $60 million or so with a player option for the final year. He’s going to regret holding out and signing for a one year minimum.

He is a RFA. The 76ers would probably match whatever contract Houston or Miami would give him.

I don’t think his market value is anywhere near $25 million a year. He has played 28 meaningless games where he put up good numbers.
