Re: Shams: Olynyk to Spurs
I feel like some teams are just hoarding center options. Leaving the few without them having major issues.

If anyone else was curious like me, this is Olynyk’s eighth different team.

Solid frontcourt depth addition. Kornet/Olynyk are definitely an upgrade from Bassey/Mamukelashvilli

I wouldn't be surprised if Olynyk is in decline, but he'd have to decline pretty far to be close to Mamu. The Spurs loved the personality but still pushed him away because he's not that good by NBA standards. As much offensive talent as he shows, the guy hasn't been playable for real minutes in his career.

Teams are more willing to dump prospect that’s not working out earlier I guess.
Washington with a good assist. See what happens in training camp and cut them loose if they don’t make it. Get a second for the trouble .

Now if we could find a taker for CJ McCollum.

It's expiring contracts that had zero value and one of the worst second-rounders possible. It feels like basically neutral.

This is one of those trades where I had to check the date and make sure it wasn't from years ago. Maybe I am thinking of Fabricio Oberto?

Re: Shams: Olynyk to Spurs
The Wizards did it to generate a $13.4M TPE. They basically absorbed Branham and Wesley into existing, smaller TPE's and then sent Olynyk out to produce one big $13.4M TPE. The SRP is utterly worthless. It's OKC's, so, #60. It's no different than a walk-on.
In terms of roster construction, this makes no sense for Washington. Olynyk looked like he was going to get 20 minutes a night at backup center. The guys they got back won't play at all. So the only rationale was to generate the TPE.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Wizards already have another deal lined up. The desperately need a center. Sarr is the only center on the roster, and he averages about 8 boards per 36 minutes. Maybe they are planning to be the 3rd party in a Kuminga trade?

Only $500K of Holmes' contract is guaranteed. He hasn't been released, but it's a good bet he will either be released or they will renegotiate a smaller salary. They're definitely not going to pay Holmes $13.5M.

Olynyk is a much better defender/shooter than Mamu. I've always been a Mamu fan but he is a very limited player

I think it is only 250k guaranteed. But it doesn't matter too much. WAS roster is so imbalance right now, with too many SG/SF.

Good pickup. Solid guy who can play or not play and be a positive person in the locker room. Spurs are going to be much, much better this season assuming health isn’t an issue.

Agreed. Solid pick up for SA, and worthy dice rolls for Washington.

I would have guessed more. He got passed around so cheaply at times and there were times I wanted him on the Blazers bench, so I often couldn’t believe he never ended up a Blazer (so far). That said, at this point in his career, I’m probably good.
