Crystal Palace Explore Move To Bring Back Conor Gallagher From Atleti

Crystal Palace are interested in re-signing England midfielder Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid, though no formal offer has been submitted for the 25-year-old.

The Premier League club are exploring options to bring Gallagher back to Selhurst Park after his successful 2021-22 loan spell from Chelsea. Atletico Madrid would prefer a permanent transfer over another loan arrangement if Palace\'s interest materializes. The Spanish club believes Gallagher is also attracting attention from other Premier League teams.

Gallagher joined Atletico in a $49.2 million move last summer from Chelsea after signing a five-year contract through 2029. He made 50 appearances during his debut season in Spain but struggled for consistent starting opportunities in the second half of the campaign.

The England international started 19 of his 32 La Liga appearances, with 13 coming from the bench. Gallagher began Atletico\'s season opener but was substituted at half-time before appearing as a substitute in Saturday\'s 1-1 draw with Elche.

During his previous Palace stint, Gallagher scored eight goals in 34 league appearances and earned the club\'s player of the season award. His performances helped secure a permanent England call-up under Thomas Tuchel.

Palace currently deploy Will Hughes alongside Adam Wharton in central midfield after Daichi Kamada\'s Community Shield injury. Oliver Glasner also has Jefferson Lerma and the injured Cheick Doucoure available for selection. Kamada has since returned to training.

Palace have drawn their opening league fixtures against Chelsea and Nottingham Forest. The club faces Norwegian side Fredrikstad on Thursday in their Conference League play-off second leg.
