Interesting, I wonder if Grimes and Kuminga do the same, and this becomes more of a thing.

BKN was only offering like 2-28 apparently, though.
We know the Dubs have a far more substantial offer on the table, and the Bulls likely do as well.
Not sure about the Sixers and Grimes. I could definitely see a QO there, as well.

Interesting. Given the sharp downturn in how the league values his archetype—undersized scoring guards with negative defensive impact—$14MM AAV may end up being the best offer he sees in his career.

Re: Shams: Cam Thomas signs the QO
so he expects to get over 20M per year next offseason? on at least 2 year deal? 46M in 3 years if thats the case
Had he accepted 28 in 2, would take 18M starting salary on his next contract to match that.
Not sure I can see a team willing to pay him 20M per year considering contracts given around the league. the 2/28 seems like a safe bet, my guess is that he is looking for more than 20 per year going forward, but a serious injury can cost him dearly.
He can score, but not much more than that... Naw got 15AAV, FVV got 25 sure but he brings more to the game than Cam, but no upside, sure...
This could be bad for him honestly, but kudos for the confidence

Cam is asking for 30M+ per. I mean, I get it, he's looking at the Jalen Green contract, and he puts up very similar numbers. But that was a different set of circumstances.
And again, going back to the cautionary Nerlens take... at the time, NN was looking at the 4-64 deal Biyombo got (that was negative as soon as the ink dried, but whatevs), wanted a lot more, and didn't think 4-70 was enough more.
Idk who of the cap space teams is going to look at Cam and say "this is our franchise guy". He screams taller Lou Williams. That is an MLE guy, not a max contract guy.

I agree that this archetype is closer to a MLE tier but the 2nd year was apparently a team option as the Nets want capspace for next offseason. If that 2nd season was guaranteed I think maybe he would've taken it but we will never know. In actuality he only turned down $14 mil guaranteed for the $6 mil QO.

Year 2 was reportedly a team option.
I read they also offered a one year 9.5, but he had to waive the no trade clause.
I guess the Nets don’t really see him as part of the future. I can understand that sentiment.
Not sure what he was asking for?

Re: Shams: Cam Thomas signs the QO
Nets in a weird spot with mixed incentives when it comes to playing Cam. They're realistically not getting value from him and they want to be bad this year. Cam is already unhappy with the organization for low-balling him. They don't want to win games. They just drafted three guards in the first round.
This makes him an interesting rental for a team that needs some perimeter scoring. His Bird rights don't transfer but that may not matter to a team desperate to be good this year like Milwaukee or one of next year's cap space teams like Chicago.

Baffling move by the nets. If you don't want him on the cap next summer, that's fine. Let him walk or work out a sign and trade and get some sort of compensation. He basically useless in a trade now because he has veto power and is on a tiny deal anyway. He's obviously not resigning and a sign and trade next off season would eat up the capspace they are trying to preserve.
Not that he was a massive asset, but this is just bad asset management.

Unfortunately for Cam Thomas I don't think he is as good as Malik Monk and everyone keeps telling the Kings that Malik is overpaid at 19 Mil. But I do hope that more of these guys start calling everyone's bluff and take these qualifying offers.

Frankly not that baffling. No one wanted him. You say he's useless in a trade now but he was useless in a trade before. That's why he wasn't traded.

Cam certainly has his pride.
I have to respect him betting on himself to get the money he thinks he deserves.
I hope that there are no hard feelings and that he would entertain an extension from the Nets instead of just wanting out.
Moving him at the trade deadline would probably be the smart move for the Nets.

Pretty sure the Nets have clearly signaled they don’t see him as a long term piece. I am sure there will be hard feelings. He is not going to be there in 2026/27, unless the Nets start him and let him show his value and then offer a much better deal than they offered. Basically the offered 1 year deals.

As he's signing a one year contract, he can't legally extend. He will hit free agency next summer.
As for moving him at the deadline, he has veto power, and he would lose his Bird Rights if he's traded. And at the number he's signed at, it'd be very hard for a team to re-sign him in free agency without having cap space, which they could use to sign him in free agency? He's essentially little value, if any, especially since he's made clear he won't take MLE money.

Re: Shams: Cam Thomas signs the QO
Smart move for Cam. I know his gaudy scoring numbers can be deceiving but you can bet someone next season will give him the bag when there are like 10 teams with projected cap space who want to to compete like the Bulls/Wizards/Jazz etc

Cam is going to full Kobe this year. And he probably won't waive his NTC to preserve Bird rights just in case. Unless one of the teams with cap next summer trades for him?
The Nets want to be bad, so Cam chucking is fine. For awhile. Until they want to start getting the kids some PT. On the ball. And the Nets have no obligation to just roll him out there and let him collect stats to get paid.
When the benchings start coming in January, I suspect it's gonna be must see TV. Can he throw a Harden level fit?
