This happens later, around the deadline. Let's say the drama continues and Memphis decides to tank and go for a top 5 pick by trading Ja (and JJJ to Chic!)
BRK owes their 2027 pick, so their long term tank is not as attractive. Plus, Ja can sell tickets-and a core of Ja/MPJ/Claxton with their young kids and a top 5 2026 pick could be nice next season (if Ja goes to BRK he'll play some then have an "injury" and sit-just enough to build some hype but not enough to move BRK out of the projected bottom 4 record).
Finally, BRK has some wiggle room with their cap space
Ja for Egor/Wolf/Mann plus the 3 NY picks (and maybe one other pick?)
I think that works money wise-if not BRK can add another salary
Memphis starts over with tons of picks and cap space plus some nice looking young talent in Eddy/Coward/Egor/Wolf/Wells/Jackson
BRK goes for the playoffs in 2027

The trade works on this site's trade checker.
I would take it if I was Memphis. I'm just out on Ja. If they don't want young guys and picks, maybe a third team could be part of the trade and send a "star player" to Memphis.

I would be out with the exception of some particular special situation that I can’t identify. Like a cheap gamble. But I would be hesitant to give real value for him.

Memphis already has a pick in the bag with the worst of Washington/Phoenix’s 1st (assuming washington picks in the top 8). I think the Nets will hoard those Knicks picks which could be a goldmine. With their cap space, they’ll go hard after any FAs this year since they don’t have their pick next year

The fundamental problem is that Nets are free to level up next summer after they've secured a top 5 pick in the 26 draft and had a good look at the guys they drafted this year.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

I have this as a "buy-low" opportunity for BRK-Ja is super talented and, maybe more importantly, can bring some energy to the franchise. I think he could maybe draw a top FA to join him too
Again, bring Ja in in Feb-have him excite the home town crowd a bit (help 2026-27 season ticket sales) and then he gets "hurt", so as not to jeopardize their top 5 2026 pick.

I don't have sending out 3 firsts for Ja, who may not have a trade market at all right now, as buying low. Ja's career arc took a negative turn when the NBA decided that it wasn't going reward offensive players who launched themselves into defenders with free throws.

Ja's market is nowhere close this right now. He's like the 75th best player in the NBA and has a massive contract and is horrible in the locker room and has tons of injuries? I would be surprised if he could get an expiring contract from a team other than the Kings.
DDR+Monk+Devin Carter is his absolute ceiling for trade value. He's nobody now.
