Mavs need to cut losses, trade AD and Kyrie and embrace the tank

They're not gonna win this year, if they even make the playoffs. They dont have any first round picks in 27-30. So while AD and Kyrie are gonna get worse and older year by year, their chances of winning anything go down and down but at the same time they don't have anything to look forward to. Basically the next half decade is lost. They have Flagg, no picks and a bunch of aging injury prone washed stars.

They just need to fully embrace the tank now. They are still in a somewhat salvagable position. They have one of the best prospects of the last decade in Flagg. If they tank now, they can pair him up with a top 5 pick in one of the best draft classes since 2003. Darryn Peterson/Aj Dybantsa - Flagg - Lively would instantly be maybe the best young trio in the league
And maybe they can get back a couple of frp's for the next few years by trading AD and Kyrie and maybe even another young piece in return

2 years from now the options are:

1) Have Flagg and no first round picks and a 35 year old AD and Kyrie and 0 chance at winning anything
Or
2) Have Flagg and Darryn Peterson/AJ Dybantsa/Cam Boozer, a couple first round picks and a good future

Nico's ego would've been too big to go for #2 after making a "win now trade". But they are definitely not winning with this injury prone and old core and just need to prepare for the future now

Complete rebuild, take the pressure away from Flagg and reset.

Agreed, especially with the upcoming stacked 2026 draft class. They're clearly not competing for a Championship this year. Worst thing they can do is win a bunch of meaningless games and finish just under .500 and miss out on the elite talent in this draft. The window closed the minute they traded Luka. It's over. Trade AD and Kyrie, load up on draft capital, and rebuild around Flagg. This is the way.

Not really. They need to just plan around Flagg's development path so they can surround him with a good team once he's ready to be an all star level player.

If they tank now and trade AD and Kyrie they will have a top 5 pick in this years stacked draft, Flagg, Lively AND either frp's from the trade or other young talents from the trade. Thats a good basis to become good in the next 5 years

I would keep AD, you need a vet star who’s been to the top to help keep standards at a higher level as it would def be lower if the roster is completely mid to low tier. I’d see what I could get for Irving but I doubt much.

It's actually top 2 protected. But they would need to be given assurance by Adam Silver that it would land in the top 2.

Even so, it may just be a sunk cost that greatly benefits the Hornets and you just rebuild with the picks you get in the fire sale and make sure the 2026 pick is high

Saw that. The move should be to rehabilitate Davis's value with a good stretch this season... Easy to do IMO within a few weeks.

Tank it out this year. Trade Gafford, trade PJ MAYBE TRADE DLO and Klay if possible. I will give Carrie all the time he would need.... Maybe bring him back in March to see if he can play well and if he can't be traded for exactly what they want.... Play it out for '27 with Kyrie and young talent...and see if they can make the playoffs. Trade him at some point

That Nico guy already have them a nice young core, so even if they don't get a pick in 27.... You still get to see you Cooper develop with Lively and Christie...2026 pick.

Lebron, his son, Gabe, Vando, Maxi, Knect + all the picks they can trade for AD and Kyrie.
Mavs get salary relief (Lebron/Maxi/Gabe expiring, Vando is a cheap contract) and future draft assets.

Just need to make play-in and a healthy Ayton + AD + Luka + Kyrie + AR, with Smart/Rui/LaRavia is a killer 8 man rotation.
