Chet v Mobley v JJJ

Post#1 » by GeorgeMarcus » Sun May 24, 2026 4:00 pm

Who is the best offensively/who projects to be the best?

Who is the best defensively/projects to be the best?

They're all pretty similar, but I like Jaren Jackson the least. The fact that he refuses to rebound game in, game out makes him different than Mobley and Chet. He weighs more than them and just has no desire to play like a big.

JJJ doesn't rebound, Chet is weak and Mobley is soft. That's a tough one.

Mobley has the highest potential for me, but I'd take Chet on any day.

I find Mobley and JJJ quite uncoordinated and ungainly where they fall all over the place. Chet despite being much smaller in frame is quite composed and does not go flailing like the other two, lending credence to the fact that maybe with some more muscle, he can become much more effective. He's got a very good second jump, recovers incredibly quickly and is probably the best defensive big man aside from Wemby.

Chet has a higher BPM and VORP than Mobley and while I feel Evan has a better chance at becoming a bonafide 1st option, neither will ever be offensive fulcrums.

I've never seen a "big" be so ungainly and uncoordinated while retaining foot speed. It's astonishing.

If I need one of them to play a sizeable role in my offense, I want Mobley because his passing is actually pretty solid.

I’d want Chet on my team overall tho. His defensive activity, persistence around the rim, and shooting are all super valuable. He’s the ideal modern big where he can impact winning with basically zero offense run for him.

chet's been top 10 or close in just about every apm metric this year. he's probably better defensively than most people think, 2nd best in the league in impact imo aside from wembanyama. offensively he's just a play finisher. both mobley and chet are comfortably ahead of jjj imo, and i have chet ahead of mobley by a comfortable margin. i think he's way better on defense.

Chet is probably the best all around player. JJJ doesnt rebound and his offensive game is clunky. Evan Mobley defense I think is slightly overrated and his offensive game just isnt quite there.

I love how you can say this without sounding absurd. And it's right.

But in other discussions people tend to throw accolades to discredit good analysis.

I think people forget that accolades, awards, and designations, just like stats also require analysis and interpretation. For example, Marcus Camby was DPOY but he was not a better defensive player than Duncan who wasn't. Was every guy who won MVP in their career better than every guy who didn't win an MVP? Etc, etc...

The guy that didn't win DPOY is the best one defensively, offensively they are pretty similar, but JJJ is the best IMO.

JJJ has the best tools and frame, but his instincts are so so bad. That’s why he’s a black hole offensively and has 2 fouls on him when the game starts. He just has zero feel

hes also has the least responsibility beacuse of the surrounding talent on his team. Replace caruso, ajay, and dort with harden, mitchell, and opinions on chet's defense may change.

Chet is the one I like the most.

Problem with JJJ and Mobley are both massively overpaid.

I know we’re not still pretending Mobley is a good defender after this postseason, right?

Where are you when people say SGA is the MVP because he's good on both ends?

If you stopped watching after the Raptors series, I could see why someone would think this.

But we've already concluded that you don't watch anything that doesn't involve the Raptors, so you shouldn't be taken seriously.

I like Mobley best because I think he is less injury prone, more consistent, even if he has a lower ceiling. And in this category of guys especially, consistency/availability is key.

Swap mobley with Chet on OKC and they still win a title and are even a little better.

Next season will be very interesting for Jaren. I think a lot of people expect them to be in the play-in next year. He'll be playing on a pretty stacked team, making near max money. We'll see what he does come playoff time.
