Chicago Bulls or Utah Jazz
This season the Chicago Bulls and Utah Jazz were expected to be solid playoff teams and both have disappointed so far. If the playoffs started today both teams would not qualify. Recently both teams have made moves in an attempt to turn around their seasons(Chicago fired head coach Scott Skiles, Utah traded for sharp-shooter Kyle Korver). Which team will turn around their season and be in the playoffs at the end?

I can't see the Bulls turning it around, as for the Jazz if they make the playoffs it's going to be because some of the teams in front of them dropped off...
The Jazz were a .500 team most of last year and that's what they are right now, I should have known better than to put so much stock in one great playoff run

Some things about the Jazz.
1. They played 10 back to backs in the first 2 months of the sesaon, they have only 10 left over the last 4 months of basketball.
2. They played 19 road games in the first 54 nights of the season, they have only 22 over the remaining 112 nights. This should drastically improve their road record.
3. They've only played 15 home games so far, thats 4th fewest in the league, considering they are the 6th best home team in the league, my guess is they will be fine at the end of the season.

Heres another stat....they are 34-30 in their last 64 games. They have been playing mediocre ball for almost a full season.

Co-signed. In that regard they remind me of the Clippers who had that one playoff run then fell back to mediocrity.
Now I think this Jazz team is better than that Clippers team in a variety of ways but I think everyone, myself included, kind of jumped the gun on the Jazz. They have a great 1-2 combo in Williams and Boozer but they need more than just that, Okur was the "more" last year but this year... I have no idea what's happened to him.
They have some nice young parts but at least my revised assessment is that they won't be competing for the Western Conference finals this year at best they compete for one of the lower seeds in the West... But once again that occurs if a couple of the teams ahead of them drop off, Portland and Golden State are the teams most likely to do so but still...

the bulls will make it imo, or have a better chance because of how weak the east is.
if the jazz make it, that means one team has to fall. who is that team?
golden state? i used to think Portland, but they are still winning games. the jazz picked the wrong season to fall like that, and isn't the reason why they have soooo many back to backs is the stupid fact that they don't play on sunday. WTF is the logic in that?

I don't think either is gonna make it. I'd say the Bulls have a better chance not because they're a better team than the Jazz, but because of how horrible the East is.
The Jazz have to play well and hope that somebody stumbles. They need to make as much ground as they can before April comes. If they're still on the outside looking in by then, they'll be done. Take a look at their schedule in April:
Wed, Apr 2 Minnesota
Fri, Apr 4 San Antonio
Tue, Apr 8 @ New Orleans
Thu, Apr 10 @ Dallas
Sat, Apr 12 Denver
Mon, Apr 14 Houston
Wed, Apr 16 @ San Antonio

I think injuries will play the largest role in determining that. Teams that have the most problems with injuries: Denver with their glass frontcourt, LA, with their bad luck, Golden State, because of Baron (he's been healthy though), and New Orleans because David West always manages to get hurt.

San Antonio should be easy pickings if they keep up their play. They'll be resting their vets, not caring about the win. Minnesota is one of the worst teams in the league. Dallas' seed too, may be established by then. One of N.O., Denver, or Houston will likely be out of the playoff picture completely, competing for nothing.
Its impossible to evaluate strength of schedule so far away, since we can't predict injuries, recent play, and seeding. Utah could go undefeated that month, simply because everything goes their way. We'll have to wait and see.
