Seems like a deal that is reasonably fair value-wise (right now) but will never happen.

If Brand doesn't recover fully or won't agree to an extension, then Sacramento would never, ever consider this deal.

If Brand makes a full comeback and agrees to resign, IMO he's worth significantly more than Martin. So the Clippers pass.

having such an awful backcourt as the clippers have and having not seen elton play since april makes me itch to pull the trigger on this but then reality sets in. you just can't trade big for small, even if thomas and sar are coming back.

If Brand returns healthy, I'd seriously consider this for the Kings.
Miller/Brand/Artest/Salmons/Bibby with Garcia/Udrih/Moore from the bench sounds like a solid team.

For the Clippers, they get a very good young SG, and at least they'd have minutes at PF for Thomas and Abdur Rahim until they draft/sign their future PF. Both Kenny Thomas and Abdur Rahim expire at the same time than Tim Thomas and Mobley.

heres a scenario for you:

brand plays 15 games for the clippers this season, has a double double in each game. clippers pick #2 overall & draft michael beasley.
brand opts out and clippers s&t for this package. i might have to ask douby as part of the package to compensate trading big for small.

I'm a big fan of Brand, but I seriously doubt Petrie proposes this deal.

My guess is if Petrie was going to propose a deal for Brand to Sacramento it would be something more along the lines of

I like this deal for both teams.

Sacramento will lose alot of games for the rest of the season without Martin. They could then ship out Bibby, Miller, Artest for prospects who are close to accomplishing their potential.

The following season they would have a pretty healthy Brand, along with the great draft pick they will get, and their prospects. Plus, Hawes should be a better player next season as well.

As for the Clippers trading big for small, I agree. I think Udrih might need to be included, and maybe a 2nd round pick or something.

For Petrie to consider trading Kevin Martin it would have to be an outstanding deal for Sacramento and as good as Brand is, I don't see the Kings proposing this kind of deal.

With the recent play of Salmons (who is a much better fit next to Bibby than Martin IMO), if you can deal Martin with some of the bad contracts for a Pau Gasol or an Elton Brand, you have to do it.

I know Martin is young and a franchise player for the Kings, but with the current roster, it's better trying to win now (and Miller-Artest-Salmons-Bibby with an all star caliber PF can compete for sure) than trade 90% of the roster or suck 3 more years until the worse contracts expire, even if it means trade Martin.

I haven't soured on Martin, I'm just SUPER impressed with John Salmons AND Francisco Garcia AND Dahntay Jones.

I look at it like this...

Would I rather have my 2 and 4 posiitons filled with Martin/Mikki or with Salmons/Brand(healthy).

That's an easy answer for me.

I'd rather spend the dollars on a PF than a SG and since Salmons is locked up at 4-5 million a year for the next 3 years, that allows the Kings to spend on the 4 spot more readily, in this case Brand.

Bibby, Artest and possibly even Miller are at levels where they could help move a bad contract.

And wouldn't the Kings be "renting" Brand just as much as some other team would Artest?

A rebuilding team doesn't trade it's best young player for an older one.

Also, I keep hearing about how the next couple of drafts are full of PF's. If that's the case the Kings should be able to pick one up if they can't get one in trading one of the players they're more likely to be open to moving.

The Kings are a rebuilding team, because to consider them a win-now team would be foolish. They're performing well considering all the injuries but make no mistake, this team is poised for a significant move or two in the near future.

The Kings aren't a rebuilding team, they fill holes one season and another and another as good as they can (Mikki Moore signing, SAR signing, the Bonzi Wells trade and his resigning attempt, the Artest trade, keep Bibby past February...). They will be a rebuilding team when they make rebuilding moves. Right now they are a team with veterans, some of them bad contracts, and some youth.

I agree this team has to go in one direction or another. Some fans would prefer keep Martin and trade all the veterans for expirings and go into rebuilding mode. I wouldn't mind, but I'd prefer trade Martin for a true PF and try to win now. Right now they are in the middle of nowhere, we'll see what happens: a trade for win now, a trade/s for rebuild or stay another season in the 'win now that can't win' mode.

I agree with loflin. If Brand is leaning towards opting out (which is unlikely), I'd do the trade, but as of right now, I'd rather have Brand and take our chances landing a point guard in Free Angency.
