bulls plan

Post#1 » by dflaschberger » Tue Jan 22, 2008 3:33 am

1. Wait for 4 weeks-if we improve-ride it out. If we still suck, time for some moves to see what we have

2. If, near the deadline or earlier we are still bad, trade wallace, smith and duhon (if necessary)

Deals-
Wallace, curry and nicols and the bulls #1 (top 12 protection this year-top 5 next) for collins, maglore and nacbar
NJ gets a defensive minded big and a pick. we dump wallace

OR
wallace and curry for kwame and vlad
i like the other better, but this might work for both teams. Bulls eat Vlad's deal, but he might have use down the road?

the other deal is Joe smith. Of course, he's playing very well, but this is a case of sell high. We need minutes to see what Tyrus is.

Smith for barry and rights to splitter
SA could use him badly, perfect in their system. They might need one mroe guy to put them over the top.

or a more complicated:
duhon for banks
smith for ATL pick and TE from Suns (bulls could throw in a 2010 pick or something)

Smith would fit lots of places.

3. Hire Rick Carlise or Larry brown. We need a vet coach to come in and preach defense and ball movement, someone the young guys would listen to.

4. keep all the young guys, let them keep working together. A core of
kirk/ben
thabo/ben
deng/noc
TT/noc
Noah/gray
could win a title, with time and the right coach.

The key is not to panic. We don't need more lottery picks, just minutes for the kids and a top coach.

Joe Smith is not worth a first round pick (whether it's an actual pick, or Tiago Splitter). If that's the price the Bulls set, they'll end up keeping him.

i would guess, somewhere near the deadline, teams might see him, especially out west, as a difference maker.

Still not worth a 1st rounder though. He is 32 years old. 32 year olds that are averaging 10 and 5 don't net you 1st rounders.

^Exactly. If the Bulls somehow end up with a pick for Joe Smith, it's because they took back a WORSE contract that needed sweetening, not an expiring or a TPE, like your scenario.

the hardest part will be trading wallace
i don't see many teams willing to take his contract
