The University of Oregon Pit Crew
I'm sure many of you watched the UCLA-Oregon and USC-Oregon games, but you may not have heard that the Pit Crew is currently being lambasted in the media over its "performance" against Kevin Love.
The Pit Crew chanted "Love's a pussy" and "Love's a f*ggot" at many intervals during the game. They also brought a lot of signs ("Even hippies have no love for Kevin", "Kevin Loves John Amaechi", "Do you HATE Kevin Love?" [a mock SportsNation poll that was the best sign of the game], "Kevin is 5 letters and so is FATTY", signs depicting Love crying at basketball games) aimed directly at him.
EDIT: They also managed to secure Kevin Love's phone number, then made a fake Craigslist listing. Kevin got over 400 missed calls and has had to change his phone number.
A lot of hate was reserved for Stan Love; some signs were made for him, and "Beach Boy Beater" was chanted, along with "Stan's a traitor". The reception was, needless to say, ice-cold. A couple of students tried to pick a fight with his brother, Colin, who was visibly talking trash for the majority of the game.
We all know what happened. Oregon got blasted, and the Loves got the last word.
But there's a big debate over whether or not the Pit Crew should be punished for this and to what extent that punishment should be. UCLA is considering filing a complaint with the Pac-10, and papers throughout Oregon and California appear to be taking sides.
I have my own individual opinions but I must refrain from posting them.

Most of that id lump into pretty standard rivalry game tactics. The chanting that Kevin Love is a F***** is pretty classless and completely homophobic
. I was gonna say Id expect better but i reckon a fair amount of those fans doing that chanting were liquored up frat guy who are quite possible the lowest form of life.

I've got no problems with chants and things of that nature. I loved when ASU came to Autzen this year and the student section chanted "OVER-RATED" so loud that it sounded like there were 20k more people in the stadium than there actually were (this was probably 40 minutes before game time).
But chants like that are just weak IMO. Kevin Love may have stiffed Oregon (or whatever), but the Pit Crew did a poor job of being good fans.

I think this is getting too much attention. Oregon fans were just rooting for their home team and while it arguably went too far, for a college atmosphere, it happens now and again. On Fox12 sports final, they were really getting on U of O's case about that game and their guest- DWIGHT JAYNES went as far as to say the university should move the students out of their courtside seats as punishment for their conduct (while also throwing in a nice jab at the blazers I might add). Love probably made the right decision by going to UCLA but I think the students were just more than anything poking fun at Love.

That's pretty lame that homophobic references is all those guys could come up with. They should have learned from their brethern a few seasons ago. Chanting Gary Coleman at Nate Robinson is the type of standard they should strive for.

In all honesty (and this has nothing to do with any OSU/UO rivalry), the Ducks have steadily earned the reputation of having some of the most classless fans in the Pac-10. Incidences like this only bolster and further justify that reputation.
I think the conference is well within its rights to sanction any university if they do not take steps to control the crowd and allow the place to be an unnecessarily hostile venue. Sure, some heckling is normal and should be allowed. But when that heckling turns to blatant derogatory bashing, then the university needs to step in and put a stop to it.
And note, if OSU students were doing this kind of thing at games, I would expect and demand that the university to put a stop to it. It's just poor sportsmanship.

This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

The Pit Crew acted like spoiled rich kids at Christmas who knew what they were getting yet were still sour because the presents weren't good enough for them.
They should grow up. Love is a man. He chose UCLA over Oregon for his own reasons. Those kids who were calling him a **** and puss are just upset because he didn't choose the Ducks. Complete lack of respect for a human being. I was ashamed to call myself a Duck fan after witnessing that on TV. Even a couple of my friends who were at the game thought it was pethetic.

I don't know the stuff that has happened at Ducks' games seems pretty mild in comparison to Duke.

yup...there's a fine line and they completely crossed it. I don't like Love too much but after hearing this I am embarrassed to be an UO Hoops fans right now due to the some of the pit crew and we got what we deserved (a loss) because some of our fans acted like classless bums.

I'm personally abstaining from commenting on any of the remarks made, but since I got to witness firsthand an Oregon football game at Husky Stadium I must VEHEMENTLY disagree with this sentiment. Forty-year-old men threw full beer cans at college students. That does not happen at Oregon (even though the college students can be out of control).

I suppose that someone has never seen an european basketball game
I understand that some things are "too much", but it's just game time ... the heat of the moment ... after that there is nothing more.
It's funny to see respectable lawyers, managers, doctors, professors, engineers etc get "hot"
The only real unaceptable thing for me is "son of a ...", that's totally classless and I've never screamed that to a player.

Here is my opinion on the subject. I've been sitting on it until it could formally be released.
The problem is, this story is now escalating and the Pit Crew is going to have to really step their game up. Again, as I alluded to, the Washington game is going to be the test of mettle. I can't tell anyone what's going down, but let's just say that you NEED to see that game in person if you can.
