I'm sure he's just speculating... it sounds more like a bold prediction than a "here is the real list" type of thing.

Also, the fact that all those players are from playoff-bound teams makes it seem more like his wishful thinking / prediction. There was a thread about how Joe Johnson would make it, and he's not on Smith's list.

I think VC was supposed to but since he was in the Allstar game he didn't play for the sophomores and I assume if Roy makes it to the big game he won't be in the JV game

If coaches were to choose Calderon as an All Star, what will that mean for his price? Will it sky rocket? Will he expect so much more?

There are very few teams that can offer him big bucks. He'll be in a similar position as Anderson Verajao (sp?) was in last summer.

I think that if Calderon isn't added as a game reserve, then he is a MUST for the Skills Competition. He's shooting 90/50/40 (FT%/FG%/3PT%) and with an awesome AST/TO ratio - actual 'skills'

So as it stands, we have...

Moon and Bargnani is the Rookie/Soph Game
Moon in the Dunk Contest
Kapono in the 3PT Competition
Bosh a near lock for the AS Game itself
Calderon a possibility for the AS Game (and maybe Skills?)

I would almost RATHER have Jose in the Skills Comp. He gets recognized for his play and they get time to gush about him exclusively. He can play a little looser when he wants, but he's too fundamental for an AS Game that is big on flash.

I have a feeling that Calderon is a real longshot to make the reserve squad. There are just a ton of deserving candidates that will be left off too and he doesn't have the name recognition that will end up costing him. But, he's certainly played like an all star and that's what really matters.

I think the east is going to be...

Billups, RIP, Bulter, Jamison, Bosh, Pierce, Johnson.

they cant even keep the proper score down there. how do you expect them to know the ASG reserves one day early.

sounds like they both made it. the teams are tipped 24 hours in advance in order to manage the PR side of things. that's why Doug Smith is so confident about his prediction

Are you missing Joe Johnson from your East reserves? They're saying in Atlanta that he's in!

Blogger's note: They may be right, guess we will have to watch TV after all.

I'll be pretty disappointed if Jose doesn't get in, now. How Smith can make such a definitive statement and then backtrack like this pisses me off.

But if Calderon and Johnson are in, then somebody is getting snubbed, here.

I think it's fair to say that Bosh/Butler/Pierce/Billups are in no matter what, which means one of Jamison or Hamilton are being left out (assuming both reports are accurate).

I just can't imagine Antawn and Rip not making the cut.

Raps and Smith would only know about the Raps -- he's guessing about the others.

Time will tell, I suppose.

It's difficult for me to imagine one of Jamison/Hamilton being snubbed for Calderon/Johnson.
