OT: Gasol to Lakers and Us

Post#1 » by ppp000 » Fri Feb 1, 2008 8:32 pm

So Pau Gasol to Lakers. And they may even trade Odom + whoever for Kidd (this is rumor on TrueHoop)

Lakers just leapfrogged just about everyone in the West.

And can anyone honestly say that you truly believe this team will win it all?? Even without the other teams getting significantly better, there are still too many holes in this team.

Not trying to be pessimistic, just realistic.

This team = us?

The Pistons lost to LeBron last year, anything can happen, but this definitely makes things worse. Hopefully we don't have to play them early (and shouldn't unless we end up the four seed and them the five).

Don't see the Lakers getting Kidd. They don't have any expiring contracts left after trading Kwame except Sasha Vujacic at 1.7 mil this season.

Kidd or not, we have to make a move to stay alive in the West and in the Association... I just suggested a Stack, Terry, Diop for Mike Miller, Warrick and Darko. It works on the RealGM trade machine.
If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

They got gasol for nothing, but is he really all that great? Combined with Kobe will make him better, but he did lead his previous team to a 13-33 record.

He also led a team to 49-33 the season two years ago when they were in the Playoffs. That team had Gasol, Jones, Stoudamire, Cardinal, Miller, Warrick, Battier.

He's good.

why weren't we in on this ****? there's our inside scoring right there. diop, cash, jjb, picks, kvh, whatever. should have made it happen.

We were distracted by the Nets and Jason Kidd...

We need to make a move now, it's pertinent.

NO need to harp on Gasol. Yes he's softer than the softest. Yes he has no playoff success.

BUt he;s the THIRD option on that team..Kobe..Bynum. Solid bench, solid pg...they gave him away for the worst player on the Lakers, two late round picks and a rookie no cares about. That's just plain WRONG.

I don't want to knee-jerk, but even before this all happened, I wanted some trade to happen. Our weakest areas SG and C are still not addressed (instead we're chasing after an old PG). But at least we're "deep" right...:(

It's a very good trade for the Lakers.

I'm actually worried about Kobe, Lamar Odom, Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol being on the court together.

Our defense would be horrendous with Pau and Dirk. Yeah it sounds nice, Pau can score on the inside, but we'd get killed on the inside, unless you want to run with Dirk @ SF, Pau @ PF, Damp @ C, Josh @ SG, lol.

why does it seem like only teams that are historically dominant can pull off trades like this? i bet if the mavs offer something similar they laugh at us but its almost like stern needed something to keep the lakers competitive

This reminds me of the Kieth Van Horn for Calvan Booth trade (except we did not have to add picks)

I admit he has had some good seasons, and can be a threat. I just have never seen him do it against dal. He is a lesser version of dirk. A big soft player, but he has never been the scorer dirk is. I guess the bonus is that he can play center. I think also the issue I was not addressing is the cast he will be with beyond Kobe. Kobe, Odom, Bynum, Gasol, and Fisher is a tough line up to defend.

I liked it.

Also, I dont think mavs need to make a huge move to knee jerk to this. A move would be appreciated for a shooting guard who can make threes would make a difference.

lake board going ape ****. Many have said that the league should just shut down now. I think they better tap the brakes as well. There is a reason that games are played. The boards were not this scared when Garnett went to Boston.

^The difference is the Lakers were already playing like a top 5 team in the league (with Bynum) and now they just traded an average backup center in Brown to probably the best 3rd option in the league. Though I think alot of people including myself were worried when KG went to Boston.

They probably need to trade Odom to get a more convential SF or look for a PG, but they are looking damn good and the rest of the west needs to be worried.

You mean like Mike Miller and Memphis' Fire Sale?
