George Wants To Play, Even If That Means Being Dealt

Post#1 » by Basketballmania » Mon Feb 4, 2008 2:11 pm

"I have to play," he told the Telegram. "I've had my share of injuries, and my thing is I have to be out on the floor. I have to show that I'm healthy.

"In reality, I don't have a job. You want to look at the team first, but, obviously, I would be lying to you if I wasn't thinking about my future as well."

George straight up for Childress, Pietrus (he may be a bonehead, but he's a hustle player), Najera, Kleiza, Cassell, John Salmons, Bobby Jackson, Redick, ANYONE PLEASE.

I feel for George.

Our best lineup last year was Harris, Howard, George, Dirk, Diop.

He, Diop and Hassell ALL deserve more minutes in lieu of Terry and Stack at the 2 guard. George even deserves ALL of Juwan's minutes up front. Juwan was a bad signing.

But, Avery's min distribution problems is nothing new and I don't see it changing with Bass and R. Terry in Euro, so I hope George goes to a team he is happy with.

Best of wishes, George.

I don't really want Bibby either, but if we drop Terry in the process, it would be easier to attain Kidd. In the offseason (2008-09 salary) Bibby + 2.5 mil worth of contracts can get Kidd.

We are not helping the Lakers what so ever.

Well, that is unless it is a complete steal. Something like Farmar and Ariza for George and Ager.

I have no idea how that relates to the post you quoted. Nowhere did it say that they wanted George back, just that he got playing time in LA, and that he didnt know what kind of minutes he has in Dallas.

What triangle was saying is that Devean is complaining about playing time right now, but he said that he got PT in LA, he never stated he wanted Devean back.

I don't get it other than the fact that neither EJ nor Trenton remains a threat from outside. DG's defense is no longer better than both of them.

Dallas Mavericks' George gets a chance

Given more minutes, swing man responds with strong effort

Nearly two hours before tip-off Monday, Devean George was sitting courtside and pondering his future.

In five of the previous eight games, he had either not played or seen only garbage-time minutes.

Yet he was adamant that he wanted to remain with the Mavericks for the rest of the season.

"Absolutely," he said. "I want it to happen here."

Thirty minutes after the Mavericks' 107-98 win over the Orlando Magic, George was asked if he knew beforehand that he was going to play 25 minutes and be an integral figure for the Mavs.

"Absolutely not," he said. "You don't know. But you have to understand that. For most of us, that's how it's going to be."

George has been lobbying for more minutes lately, and when the opportunity finally came, he cashed. George contributed eight points, four rebounds, four hard fouls and savvy play at the defensive end as he guarded all the big men the Magic played, including Dwight Howard.

George, who missed all of November with a foot injury and has received spotty playing time since, is on a one-year contract and would like to bolster his value for the future. But he can't do that without playing.

Judging from Monday, he might get his chance. He just has to be productive.

"The thing that worries me is that we've been shorthanded and I haven't played much," he said. "So what's going to happen when we're full strength?"
