ESPN is Becoming LIke The Gossip Mags At The Check Out Line

Post#1 » by Dino Nation » Wed Feb 6, 2008 2:35 pm

I mean maybe I am alone in this I am not sure. But I have had my fill of ESPN and the so called experts that gossip like people do about Brittney Spears Sanity.

Whatever happen to solid sports journalism? I focused my blog I write daily on this topic should you care to read more on this topic. But if not you can still comment are you as tired of ESPN and the rumor mill and Insider B.S they through out on a daily basis and report it like it is fact. The latest being this Trade of Shaq to the Suns. They also said Kobe was getting traded to that never happened.

Usually, I would respond with a sarcastic comment because you're basically complaining about the media's job, but from what I learned last year, GM's from teams not involved with trade negotiations will create false stories and send them to media sources to try and stop other teams from completing trades.

The reporters are in a position where if they don't report, they will no longer be referred to by readers like ourselves.

Really though, would you be on RealGM if it wasn't always the first to break all of these stories?

Just because a trade wasn't finalized, doesn't mean that it was never discussed.

As to Why I come here? To hear what Fans are saying as well as to get NEWS if I want Rumors I can make them up just as good as anyone. But I want FACTS. I do go into greater detail in my blog. Before anyone thinks I am anti Media I worked in the media so that isn't my motivation. The exact opposite actually I expect more from the media.

Well, I come to the boards for the news.

The team boards break every trade a good twelve hours before a major media sources do.

Every trade begins as a rumour. It's just the nature of the beast.

No insults.

before significant trades can be completed teams go through a litany of negotiation and talks. now, in that time, if personnel connected with the trade leak it to a media outlet, the reporter will follow through with their journalistic responsibility and report that trade talks are ensuing between team X and team Y over package Z.

if the trade does not go through, it does not make the reporter less credible or less valid. it just means that a complication stopped the teams from following through on said proposal.

you can't have it both ways. you can't report "FACTS" and expect rumours. in fact, these rumours often establish a teams rapport with a certain player. we've been hearing for months how Pau was likely to be traded, and that his team was actively shopping him. if the rumours were never reported, then the trade might have come as a shock to most fans. however, because the trade offers were dissected and discussed, most fans had a) a general idea the trade was going to happen and b) how the trade measured up to other offers.

And another one. Check your PM. -Shaazzam. and your blog sucks.

and i love how your whole diatribe was inspired by ESPN reporting on the Shaq-Marion trade where, pending physicals, the trade seems to be complete.

I understand what the media job/role is. But It is getting more like tabloid mag stuff than good solid reporting. Truth is the line between Fact , Fiction and Rumor is getting very cloudy. If people don't agree I am cool with that. But I think it leads to a valid topic of what exactly do people want. Truth is if more felt like myself than you would get less of these rumor based stories. Because as I stated in my Blog this all adds up to one word. RATINGS!!!
