Most people on this board are of the opinion that the Raps need a defensive C and a slashing wing to become an elite team, but I'm not so sure that's the case. I think we should keep Bargs as our C, and instead, over the next couple years, look to acquire:
1. A large, defensive SF, who can rebound, score with power moves in the paint, and block shots. This will give us our 2nd big body in the paint (much needed for rebounding and help d), while still allowing us to have the offensive mismatches on offense that Bargs can create with his combination of size and perimiter oriented game. I'm thinking a 3 in the mold of Lamar Odom, Josh Smith, etc.
2. A SG that can create his own offense. Doesn't have to be a slasher - I'd be totally fine with someone who can create space to get off their jumper. Players in this mold that could be had relatively cheaply include Mike Miller and Michael Redd. A slasher would be nice, but elite slashing wings are actually very hard to come by, and if we have a SF who can score with power moves in the paint (not necessarily slashing), a jump shooter who can create for himself would be fine.
What do you think? It would be a somewhat unconventional team (on offense our 3 would play more of a 5 game, and our 5 more of a 3 game), but I seriously think this could work.
Do we really need a defensive C and a slashing wing?

I actually like seeing Bargnani in the post...it really opens up his game...
A big defensive forward?...Artest...I am pretty sure the whole board will agree with you on that one...(The player Artest not the person)
Although a shooting guard hasn't been widely discussed here on this board...it has been acknowledged that Parker would be better suited coming off the bench next year and developing a younger Parker...
To sum it all up...I don't want Bargnani developing a Forwards game...he will turn into just another 7footer who can shoot...
I believe in our coaching staff and their vision of Bargnani...
