The audacity of hope...

(The political reference is meant to evoke an atmosphere where something positive could happen. I am not promoting anyone's candidacy. I'm talking to folks of all political stripes.)

I made the following message elsewhere in reply to comments on Bogut's apparently not counter-attacking after Mo's reported insult. But I post it here to suggest that when things are bad, the opportunity for change is tangible.

Here it is:

If Bogut retreated from that battle to choose another later, OK. If he looked around and saw no support for him, and decided to abandon the war, then that's troubling.

I'm hoping the franchise will accept that fundamental change has to be made, to management first, to the basketball atmosphere, and then probably to the team. NBA intelligence and leadership are both needed desperately.

But if only a few changes are made to placate the fans, then expect the troubles to continue.

When I lived in Milwaukee, I'd lunch with a friend at Jake's Deli on North Ave. Not uncommonly Herb Kohl would lunch there too, usually alone. My friend had met him at a couple events, and would stop by his table and respectfully say hi. Usually make some comment about issues before the city or the Senate. I recall Herb's answer typically being along the line of, it's too bad, but that's the way it is. Or, I'd like to do something on that, but it's not practical. Let's hope he doesn't view this year's Bucks team in the same passive way.

At times in the past, he has taken major steps to try to make the team better - when he recognizes a real prospect for it working, when it seems to him to be within reach. Let's hope this is one of those times.

Maybe I'm full of too much Obama Hope, but I think the current squalor on this team is a chance for transformation. I think that could be a hit with fans - not initially, but as they saw that both the spirit and the play of the Bucks was renewed.

Sorry if I have been living under a rock, but what was the comment Mo made about Bogut exactly?

Bogut spoke up at the team meeting, and Mo I believe is said to have said that Bogut was just a guy on a rookie contract and would be better off staying silent.
