Is Mike Woodson a candidate at IU?

Post#1 » by evildallas » Sat Feb 16, 2008 10:05 am

Just a thought with Mike Woodson's contract expiring this summer and the IU situation looking sketchy, maybe the Hoosier returns home to get them back on the straight and narrow.

Minnesota's Randy Wittman is another Hoosier possibly rumored for the job. No one has said anything about Isiah Thomas as a candidate.

Depends on what he does rest of this season. He doesn't make the playoffs then that might happen. I hope he is gone after this season regardless. It is just not working out here with him. Woodson and Hawks need to start over with fresh starts.

I completely agree.

I don't think we'd take him. He's an NBA coach. It wouldn't work there. If his career kind of fizzles as a coach I could see him being hired as an assistant down the road. It would do wonders for recruiting if there was a coach with NBA head coaching experience.

My thought was that he could claim the development of Josh Smith/Josh Childress/Marvin Williams in the plus column showing his ability to work with young players.

The best scenario would be if the Hawks make the playoffs, but ownership decides that it's time for a coach to get to the next level (like Detroit did to Rick Carlisle). He would then be exiting on an up not a down in terms of spin. He would be a return to the IU family without being too close to the Bobby Knight coaching tree. And while I've often questions Woodson the coach, I never doubted his integrity. He seems like a better candidate than Wittman to me.
