Brent Barry Waived
According to John Hollinger's ESPN article analyzing the trades that just went down, he says that Brent Barry has been waived by Seattle.
If Hollinger is correct in pre-empting the services on this report, I'd try to sign Barry.
Unfortunately, he may just re-sign with the Spurs.
I would, however, make the call. The guy can play the 1, 2 or 3.
He'll probably be claimed off waivers.
If not, the Celtics should claim him, to retain his rights.

In the past, he has backed up the 1, 2 and 3 for San Antonio.
Yes, he is injured, and not young (was 36 in December).
Still, for 1 season, if he heals, he might be worth a roster spot.
By claiming him off waivers (for $1000), even if the Celtics don't sign him, they still have the right to sign and trade him at a later date. Could be useful in a corpse trade this summer.

Once he agrees to a buyout, he doesn't have a contract there is nothing to claim he is a FA, no rights, no nothing.
I would love to get Barry when healthy he would really gives this team an added dimension. Very solid defensively at either guard spot at 6'6" can handle the ball and a sniper as well. Was at his best playing off of Ray Allen. Dad hates the C's and he is hurt.
I am not so sure that the return to the Spurs is foregone conclusion, nor do I know if he will be healthy enough to play this season. He duplicates Ginobli so its difficult to play them together and it has affected his mins since he got to SA. With the addition of Stoudamire and Thomas it will squeeze what role there is for Barry especially since he is not a great SF and Pops best wing defenders, Bowen and Udoka, are there. Parker's health as well as his own might dictate if he was even on the active roster for the post season, he is essentially the 7th man and they have Vaughn as a 3rd pg as well.
In Boston, there is a need for a ball handler as well as the fact that Doc frequently goes to a 3 and 4 guard lineups as well as Posey playing a lot of four. Ray could use rest anyhow and Barry certainly could compete with House for mins.

If healthy, Barry would be a good addition to our team. He has a lot of championship experience. He is a good passer and good shooter and has the good size. I fell he can help us off the bench in a big way like he helped the Spurs in the past.
Imagine KG in the post, being doubled and having the option to kick it out to Ray or Barry. Barry is a deadly 3-pt shooter. If Cassell isn't going to be bought out, Ainge should make a push on Brent Barry.

Apparently Danny has shown interest towards Barry...
But Houston is going all out to try to get him...

The Spurs would like to re-sign him. The Phoenix Suns, L.A. Lakers, and Boston Celtics have also expressed interest.
But Houston is going all out to try to get him...
"We are offering the maximum allowed on a two-year contract," said Daryl Morey, Rockets General Manager. "We are in full pursuit."
And not just in the figurative sense. The Rockets are literally going after Barry.
"Coach (Rick) Adelman and I plan to go to San Antonio and meet with Brent," Morey said. "We want to give him the full treatment."

Can he still throw-it-down?

This years dunk contest, shamed that one. Of the 3 guys, Finley is probably the only one still able to pull of one of those dunks.

Is it right that he has to wait 30 days to be able to go to the Spurs?
And is it also right that if he joins a team after the 1st of March, he cannot play in the playoffs?
Can someone clarify this? If this is right, he is probably not going to the Spurs?
And do the Rockets have a trade exemtpion? Because otherwise they cannot claim him off Waivers.

barry is someone that greatly fills our need in the backcourt. he can run the point and shoot the lights out. he also plays good defense. i believe that a player from the spurs could legitimately add a good championship experience to us. he has played well with ray allen a few years back. we have to solve our problems now, or else we'll fall short come playoff time against the improved elite teams in both conferences.
