New Cavaliers Rotation

Post#1 » by crackjack » Fri Feb 22, 2008 3:52 pm

New Rotation

Now that the dust has cleared after the big trade, the new rotation for the Cavaliers looks pretty scary. Ferry did a pretty good job.

Your thoughts?

I guess they'd have to start Gibson for a while, in order to allow Delonte and Wally to work their way into the system. I think Pavlovic will actually benefit from this trade, because he now has a clearer role on the team. He doesn't have to create, pass or even shoot now. Just play hard on defense.
Go Cavs!

So what is it?

1. West, Gibson
2. Szczerbiak, Pavlovic
3. LeBron, Pavlovic/Szczerbiak
4. Wallace, Smith
5. Ilgauskas, Varejao

Much better than before, ICLO.

As a Celtics fan I have to say that's pretty good looking team right there IMO. The playoffs are going to be real exciting.

PG- Delonte West, Daniel Gibson, Damon Jones
SG- Wally Szczerbiak, Sasha Pavlovic
SF- LeBron James, Devin Brown
PF- Ben Wallace, Joe Smith, Dwayne Jones
C- Zydrunas Illgauskus, Anderson Varejao
IR- Eric Snow

I like it, alot of versatility now. Good job Danny Ferry. BTW Bamboozled, Gibson is out 4-6 weeks with a high ankle sprain. Varejao is almost ready to come back, I've even read he will play tonight against Washington.

I'd love to see this five on the floor offensively

West
Bron
Wally
Smith
Z

My only concern is at the end of a gae if Wallace and Varejao are on the floor together we have no inside offensive game.

Not tonight..

I imagine the eventual lineup will be the following:

West--Boobie
Pavs--Devin
KING--Wally
Ben----Joe
Z------AV

I can see the small lineup too with Lebron running the point on offense:

Gibson
DWest
Wally or Pavs
Lebron
Z or Wallace or Sideshow

pick n roll at the top with the big man...then pop it off to any of the 3point shooters. Dwest can also drive so he doesn't alway have to take a 3pointer. Wally can post up smaller guards too.

Dwest can guard bigger guards pretty well for his size.
Kwame Brown is servicable, get over it.

Actually, the rotation is gonna be "up in the air" for a little while IMHO.

Here is what I think:

The Cavs see Wallace playing the 4 with Z at the 5, but they may have a little bit of a log-jam because Varejao has earned that spot. So what do they do? Who do they bring off the bench? I think they could go either way and have a 4 man rotation sort of like the 3-man we used to have...but giving-out minutes will be tough. It will be interesting.

Then we have the pg problem. Will Daniel start or West? Will Sasha start or Wally? Where is Devin and Damon gonna fit-in?

Damon will want to continue with regular minutes or he may become a problem again. And we dont want to buy him out because he is too valuable next year.

The small line-up can be VERY interesting.

We can go super small:

Daniel
Damon
West
LeBron
Smith

That is a SUPER fast line-up...completely offensive.

We can also go SUPER BIG!

Zydrunas
Wallace
Smith
Wally
LeBron

This is also a mostly offensive group with Wallace intimidating the paint.

We have a defensive team:

Varejao
Wallace
LeBron
West
Snow

No weakness defensively there.

There are a lot of options with this group, and the real thing that we are about to find out is exactly how good of a coach Mike Brown is. He has a line-up for EVERY situation. He will need to tell the team that they will play more some days than others, and that they will play in certain roles...except LeBron and Z.

These next 15-20 games should be very telling. By the final 10 games I fully expect them to be gelled and ready for the playoffs.

If Mike Brown does his job, then the Cavaliers can be damn scary!

As a Celtics fan that has watched him play in over 170 games, I have to tell you that you're wrong about that. Delonte can play the 2 just fine on the offensive end, but he gets eaten alive by most players 6'5'' or taller on the defensive end.

I really don't think that the Cavs brought in two guys that make near 30 million bucks combined to ride the bench. So expect to see Wally and Ben get lots of Run.

As for Bens poor offensive game, playing alongside a Offensive genius I am sure Lenron will find ways to give Wallace good scoring opportunities

When you have James, Szczerbiak, and Ilgauskas on the floor, you shouldn't need too many points from Wallace.

Enjoy having smith. he's what you call a really good seasoned vet. he was the freakin best player on our team and thatz saying something. expect to get at least 17 pts. 7 reb. per night if not more from him. he's just absolutely deadly with the mid-range jump shot. the only thing to worry about with him is his age and knees so use him wisely in the right situations and he'll be fine. we'll miss you joe smoooooth!!!

If Damon is playing like he did yesterday sure he'll get as much run as he can stand.

How much Wallace and Wally make will have virtually nothing to do with how much run they get. That is one thing that I do like about Brown. He may not be a huge fan of rookies, if you prove you should be getting time normally he'll find a way to get you out there. Sure they'll play but I don't really see any of our bigs getting over 30 mpg

PG: Daniel Gibson - 32 / Damon Jones - 16
SG: Wally Szczerbiak - 24 / Delonte West - 24
SF: Lebron James - 40 / Wally Szczerbiak - 8
PF: Ben Wallace - 30 / Anderson Varejao - 18
C: Zydrunas Ilgauskas - 30 / Joe Smith - 18

Pavlovic won't get minutes unless he starts shooting the ball well.
