Air Canada Centre Camera Policy
Anyone know if / what their restrictions are? Focal length? Length of the lens? No DSLRs?

From the ACC website...
For most events the use of flash photography and professional equipment, video or audio recording is not permitted. However, small "point-and-shoot" cameras are generally permitted. NBA: Use of flash photography is strictly prohibited. Video cameras ARE permitted, but the use of still photos or video footage for commercial purposes without written permission from the NBA is prohibited. NHL: Video cameras are NOT permitted. Non-flash still photography is permitted; however, if the lens is detachable it must not exceed 75mm. NLL (Toronto Rock): Video cameras are NOT permitted. Non-flash still photography is permitted; however, if the lens is detachable it must not exceed 75mm. Concerts/Special Events: As the camera policy for each event is different, we recommend that fans contact Fan Services at (416)815-5982 prior to arriving at the building to confirm the camera policy for a particular event.
MLSEL reserves the right to change the camera policy!
I guess if it's for personal use, it might be ok. *Hopes*

I remember hearing something about telephoto lenses not being allowed without an NBA photographers pass.
I took a 35-200mm DSLR (when Jordan was in town for the first time in a preseason game as a Wizard) and had no issues. Mind you I found it hard enjoying the game and taking action shots. So in the end I decided it was a useless endeavour and a clear memory of the action was more important than one of my pics.
I think if you take a tripod or stabilizer than you start crossing the lines between personal and commercial purposes so, just use your common sense.

I definitely had no interest in bringing in a monopod. I have VR on my main 70-200 f/2.8 lens, so I'll be fine without that. I guess I'll bring a 50mm as well, and if they give me any issues, I'll just tell them I'll leave the telephoto in the bag, and take pictures with the smaller lens. I don't think I'll take many action photos, but depending on how the game goes, I might get bored a little and take some. I'll just make sure I go early, so if they force me to go back to the car, I have time.
I know one of my friends got in a 18-200 lens before, on a D80, and had no problems. I was hoping to hear the same, which I kinda have. I might just bring lower grade equipment, to be safe. =/

Well, a lot of that has to do with the point and shoots (or camera phones) being used, and people either not knowing how to turn the flash off, or thinking the flash will actually help them get a clear picture -- which it just won't matter.
And really, it's hard to catch someone with a small camera, whereas it'd be a lot harder for someone with a professional grade camera to put it away before security sees them.

The door security is only strict when it comes to bringing food/drinks. It's a shame how much food is wasted for every game...I wonder if they donate it all or something.
I bring my binoculars whenever I have seats in the nosebleeds, which they allow. I usually get this look

the rules for ACC regarding NBA games are: No flash period, any camera, any lens goes (even tele/zoom lenses) my friends have shot with the 70-200VR and even prime 400s, I've shot with a Canon 70-200 many times.
No mono/tripods allowed (to prevent tripping over the legs).
Security check at the gates are pretty lax.

you'll have no problem bringing your camera bag in with you - they'll want to check it for drinks however. I brought in my DSLR with a couple of lenses and camera bag an hour before the game, went down to the floors and shot like mad. Had a very strange looking lens set up on my camera (won't go into details) which prompted security to walk up to me and ask what focal length it was. I told them it was equal to 200mm. They said you can't use it, but then one of them reverted to some security list and found out that policy is only in effect for Leaf games. Leafs have the policy that you can only bring in a 75mm or shorter focal length. Raps have no policy.

You guys should post some pics.
A popular lens for shooting during games (although kind of slow) is the DO version of the Canon 70-300mm IS. Basically it's the size of a smaller prime, but has a pretty long focal length.

Well, I truthfully got lazy today, and was more interested in watching the game, rather than taking pictures.
With that said, I had absolutely NO problem getting my camera in. Thanks everyone!
I'll post some in a bit, though I didn't have anything spectacular shot.
I always enjoy looking for 'faces in the crowd' too during games, and one that caught my eye ... was this.
All I'll say is ... HMMMMM?
