Anyone else watching? I was glad to see Javier Bardem win supporting actor.

I'm hoping No Country wins best picture but I also really liked There Will Be Blood and Michael Clayton. Juno was OK but nothing that special IMO. And I didn't see Atonement.

All 5 nominations for Best Picture are great and I'd really be pleased with any of them winning.

Marianne Coltillard winning is a shock. Julie Christie has won everything else.

I get a kick out of Enchanted not winning for best song. They had 3 out of 5. Too bad.

That happened to Dreamgirls last year. Glad the peoples from Once got it, they effing deserve something.

I was really surprised Anderson didn't win for director or best picture for There Will be Blood. I can understand why the Coen brothers won for adapting the film, especially being ballsy with the ending of No Country for Old Men and its adaptation, but didn't think they should necessarily get 2/3 for director, picture, and adaptation, let alone sweep the three categories.

I'm blown away that Michael Clayton was up for anything other than Best Supportingl for Wilkinson's performance. That was, without a doubt, one of the most overrated films I've seen in years.

I agree, although I did like Tilda Swinton. I certainly didn't like her more then Cate Blanchett as Bob Dylan however. Surprised on that one.

Nice to see the Coen's rewarded and though PT was personally shut out, awards for Daniel Day Lewis (who's cool as ****) and for cinematography are certainly well deserved.

I may be alone, but I thought it was one of the strongest years for movies in years. Supporting actor was an absurdly stacked category, and they could have probably included 2 or 3 more nominations without diluting the quality there. Glad Bardem won but everyone was deserving.

I'm a monster McCarthy fan (mainly Blood Meridian), so I'm happy whenever something happens that results in the promotion of his work, but I also happen to think No Country was worthy of every honor it received -- though There Will Be Blood was probably equally so. I'm excited about P.T. Anderson's future work; Blood was more reminiscent of Kubrick to me than any other movie since his death.

I thought Michael Clayton was good but probably would have been toward the bottom of Best Picture winners... better than Titanic and Gladiator but worse than most others. I enjoyed Juno, but it was one of the emptiest screenplay winners ever. Paddy Chayefsky raises an eyebrow.

I'm with you, emunney, I thought this year for movies was really strong. Consider how movies like Sweeney Todd and Charlie Wilson's War weren't nominated for Best Picture, but still on the same level in terms of quality with the movies that were.
