What's fun in Portland?

i was there 2 years ago. all i remembered was that huge book store downtown and a very good sushi place. the sushi was freaking huge! biggest sushi i ever had. it was fresh and delicious. what else is fun in portland?

OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science and Industry) is awesome. It's one of those places that makes you feel like a kid again with all the cool stuff they have.

Huge book store? Probably Powell's, which is a really great way to spend some time.

The sushi place you're talking about is Saburos. Its quite good, but you always have to wait in line (no reservations) for at least half an hour. There are lots of great restaurants in Portland, places where you can get a great, gourmet meal for far less than you would pay in any other city. My favorite right now is Le Pigeon on E Burnside.

Portland is also a bar town and has thousands of great little spots to get a brew. There are more breweries here than any other city in the US. As mentioned earlier we also have a plethora of strip clubs. Magic Gardens in China Town has very pretty girls with very few boob jobs all in a pleasantly divey atmosphere.

dont mean to hijack your thread but i'm kind of wondering the same thing... I'm 20 so not like i can go to bars but i'll probably be in portland this summer. What in the hell is there to do? Hopefully i can drive up otherwise its going to be BORING ( i dont do public transportation ).

Other than that you can just walk around downtown and catch the sights. More fun if you have someone else with you though.

Hit up the river.. Summertime is rivertime for me. I spend all summer on my boat and all winter watching the Blazers. If youre just visiting, theres all kinds of bars. More Micro Brews than you will be able to try. As PNF said, OMSI is good times. I havent been there in 10 years but I'm coincidentally going today (and im pumped

). 1 hour to Mt. Hood and 1 1/2 hours to the Beach.

went to Omni when i was younger.... it was kinda gay but yeah i was a douche bag then. Maybe i'll enjoy it now. All i really do in CA is sleep, work out, work on cars, and persue women. So hopefully i can get some or all of that done in oregon. I'll have to get on myspace and get in touch with some members of the opposite sex in oregon. I used to have Jenny or whatever her name is a friend but yeah new account FTL.

First Thursday in the Pearl is pretty fun. My wife and I had our first date there, but took plenty of other women to it before that. Not for sure when they start it since part of it is outdoor. Great excuse to have a good time earlier in the evening/middle of the week.

The zoo is horrible, but the Japanese and Rose Gardens are pretty cool. There are other memorials in the complex that make it a good use of a day.

Plenty of hikes in the area. Tourists usually do Multnomah Falls. Bonneville Dam is reletively close and worth a view.

Plenty of vintage theatres. I prefer going to the Park Regal to watch the lower budget/foreign films, but have to go to some of the older establishments for the more obscure titles.

Of course, watching the Blazers is high on lists of things to do.

Best way to check for local events is from the Oregonian. Lot of events at Waterfront Park in the summer that are fun.
