yeah, to write off kg and lebron as unworthy candidates and not even mention chris paul was a bit much. he went out of his way to put down lebron and he basically gives kobe all the credit for fisher, farmar, sasha AND andrew's improvement.

That's good enough for me, terrific read.

i hear what your saying but what i take away from that is the writer is attempting to overcome a percieved mountain of negativity....

hence the omission of others and/or the dismissal of others....

in other words, the author is making as strong and as acute an argument as possible, in response to all the negative stigmas of k.b.....

to systematically compare the candidates here would take away from the scope of the article...

The fact that his article wasn't UNBIASED was the best part. You notice that in MVP discussions or even any Kobe vs ? topics, things are almost NEVER looked at fairly. People find any way to bring in negativity and hate towards kobe to win the discussion. When was the last time you had a unbiased kobe conversation?

If a comparison cannot be made fairly then all parties involved should have to face biased statements. If you can find holes in favor of the other player It will be at some point brought up whether it has to do with basketball or not. If your not a kobe homer then your a bron homer, or KG homer, and so on.

The fact that kobe is compared to MJ may be his downfall as far as the respect that he should recieve becasue NOBODY wants to forget about Jordan. Bron sounds just as much like MJ as kobe did at 23 yrs old. At some point that will become his downfall as another phenom takes his place as the "NEWEST THING".

The fact that everyone has a opinion nowadays whether it makes sense or not clouds most discussions and if you have personal likes or dislikes about a player ultimatley seals there fates.

Kobe isnt and will not be the only person to commit adultry. Nor is he the only athlete to display selfishness at some point in time. He isnt the first nor the last to force or request a trade, or criticize his teammates. He wont be the only person who dosen't come across as "warm" to the public who will do ANYTHING for a story.

You see all this has NOTHING to do with what takes place on that court. What you can say is that not many have the will to be great. Not many have the work ethic that few display. Not many have the guts to risk failure for a chance at greatness. Big balls are needed to take the top spot in this league and for all of the players that have come and gone only a few can say that they were touted as the best by their peers.

The fact that the people who mean the least when it comes to the NBA ( the press ) are given the choice of who is this leagues MVP shows that it means nothing. These people are paid to have a revolving opinion. They support who sounds good at the moment.

Their claims that lebron is leading a team of mediocre talent through the LEAST is why he cannot be robbed of the MVP. Yet the SAME EXACT S*** happens for kobe in the DOMINANT conference and he is said to not be a leader and dosent invovle his team. Talk about stuck on stupid.

Now we have a squad and people will say kobe has too much help, and dont let us win the chip ( without shaq ) this year. There will be so many reasons why kobe was not the most important reason why things went well. Yet let the phoenix win and you will hear how the DIESEL POWERED suns were shaq's 5th championship with his fourth team, led by oneal with a miraculous 5ppg 8rpg while only having a measly two allstars this time.

Homer or not being a laker or kobe fan, expect bias and if kobe can continue to play through it dont let expectations of it changing from hater bother you too much. S*** happens.

Why are people so up in arms over the title of this thread? It's really about the article... and it was a great read. IMO, all very true.

I agree. I think M.J. had bigger hands therefor had slightly better ball handling but Kobe is better at scoring and even defense when he wants to be. I take Kobe over Mike. Mike couldn't shoot the 3. Kobe has the record for most 3's in a game plus in MJ's day the talent was alot weaker. In his day a team had 1 superstar and the one's that had 2 were the contenders. These days a team has 2-5 stars on a team.

Anybody notice all the Kobe haters are not his biggest supporters to. Also a few people are taking the Spurs but almost everybody is taking the Lakers to win it all.
And imagine how good Kobe would be if Bynum was back and he had 10 fingers.

People just love to hate on Kobe and it's always gonna be like that. With this newly stacked team that he has, the Lakers will be competing for the next three years at-least.
To say that Jordan had no competition is a little far fetched. He went up against Drexler and a VERY good Portland team, Magic, Worthy and the Lakers, The Jazz and two supertstars in Malone and Stockton, Barkley with Kevin Johnson and the Suns. I think those are some REALLY good teams.
