Top 5 Best 'P'otential in draft

Post#1 » by Mr.Raptorsingh » Sat Mar 1, 2008 11:42 pm

There's that 'P' word....potential. I want to know which 5 players have the best potential in the draft. Players who have the ability to be multiple time all-stars or even superstar capabilities. Here's my five:

1. Michael Beasley

2. DeAndre Jordan

3. OJ Mayo

4. Derrick Rose

5. Nicolas Batum

Beasley

Randolph

Jordan (although, IMO he is a huge bust, I laugh when his athleticism is compared to D Howard- nowhere near correct)

Rose

Batum

Beasley (best combination of size, athleticism and skills)
Rose (second best combination of size, athleticism and skills)
Jordan (has superb frame and elite athleticism to go along with it (but not on DH12s level, of course))
Batum (this guy will surprise a lot of people. He won't be a superstar, but he'll be a very good second banana.)
Thabeet (perhaps he should be even higher on the list. He is raw, but the progress he has made has been very surprising. If he had the proper work ethic, desire and stayed in college till his senior year, he could be very good player in this League. You don't find a lot of 7'3 guys with his kind of athleticism who could improve as quickly as he has done.)
"Sometimes a player's greatest challenge is coming to grips with his role on the team." (Scottie Pippen, #33)

I actually disagree, I think his athleticism is close to Howard's level. What he clearly lacks is the instincts and intensity of Howard.

I do agree that he has the look of a bust in the making. Look at someone like Kwame Brown. He's an insane athlete. But the fact that he doesn't care just makes him horrible. Hopefully Jordan won't end up with the same fate.

1) Beasley (nothing more to say)
2) Bayless (Monte Ellis with a jump shot)
3) Thabeet (a more athletic Mutumbo)
4) Mayo (Good be devestating if he went to the right offense)
5) Rose (can he do enough offensively?)

Kwame Brown isn't nearly as athletic as DeAndre Jordan.

I think DeAndre's athleticism is being underrated. He runs the court like a deer and he has some pretty nice ups. He is capable of making some Dwight Howard esque putbacks.

Jordan lacks the fast twitch fibers of a D Howard or Kwame when he entered the league (obviously not the Kwame we see today)

1) Jordan: He HAS to have the most potential since he could be a legit big who can get 20-10-2 if he projects to his highest potential. I am not on that train, but he could.
2) Beasley: A legitimate beast who could become a top PF in the league and become a 22-11 guy on a good team.
3) Randolph: The most athletic player in this draft, he will have to live up to the Tyrus Thomas comparisons that are gonna leech onto him, but if he projects, how unlikely is it he becomes a Josh Smith type?
4) Mayo: He is probably the most talented two guard, and if he gets a little seasoning 25 a night from him is not out of the question.
5) Augustin: I rate his potential as higher than a guy like Rose because Augustin scores better than Rose, and he could compare to a Chris Paul type of ball handler.

Beasley - no reason for him to not dominate the way he is
Rose - great athlete and good size
Jordan - it hurts to put him on the list but his size and athleticism is off the charts. Jordan would be higher if he was living up to his potential.
Mayo - the kid can flat out score

Before Kwame's foot injury a few years back, he was more athletic than Jordan.
