Outsider: McGrady an MVP Candidate?

Post#1 » by JiriMania » Mon Mar 3, 2008 3:20 am

Celtic Fan here...

As an outsider who watches few Rocket's games I want to pose a question to houston fans.

Is McGrady an MVP Candidate?

When a team succeeds the way the Rockets have lately you normally have to look to that team's best player. With Yao down for the count that means McGrady is "the man" in Houston.

Is the winning a product of great play and leadership from T-Mac or is it something else? What's in the drinking water down there?

Really just a mentality among the role players deciding to step the hell up with injuries coming left and right. Alston's elevating his play, Scola has been stellar, Battier is shooting better, Landry impressing, and Mutombo deciding that he isn't really old.

Candidate yes, but he honestly doesn't have much of a shot. It's looking very much like Kobe this year.

Stat wise no he is not

but if the MVP was judged on leadership and how well the team responds to you well yes

If that makes any sense lol

If houston beat Indiana and make the history, how can you count Mcgrady out of the MVP picture? On the other hand, Jason Kidd makes Dampier a superstar, should he also be mentioned?

If he keep this up and gets us into the playoffs he should be a candidate , but Kobe deserves it this year.

If he can get us wins, he's my MVP for the Rockets. League-wise, there are just too many players that have done better for their team.

Thanks for the input guys, just got curious from watching the Rockets tonight, wondered what was going on.

For all that being said about T-mac, one player does not a team make. And this TEAM certainly seems to be responding.

Even if MgRady goes beserk and the Rockets do something crazy like win 60 games,T-Mac wouldn't get the MVP. No way the League allows a player who didn't make All-Star team get the MVP.
Too many of voters don't really follow the whole League thru the season. They usually pay attention afound the All-Star break and whoever has had a strong season at that point, usually gets the nod. It's too hard for a player to make a late push as many voters tune out NBA for NCAA's March Tournament.

The League doesn't vote. The GM's vote.

If he leads the Rockets to 60+ wins or the 1 seed without Yao he'll be the MVP.

No one outside of Mrs. Cleo could foresee something like that happening.

Tracy since coming back from that knee injury has been one of the best players in the league. hes not scoring like he can, but what hes doing is getting a lot of assiusts steals and blocks. hes avge 2 steals 7 assists and almost a block and half in that span.

As we saw in the 3rd q tonight, he can score at will, but he is now concentrating on getting scola, landry and battier good looks. thats a sign of a leader.

22 points 7 assists 6 boards 3 steals on 10-21 shooting tonight. thats how hes playing. he can still lead the league in scoring, but were trying to win a ring here, hence the assists, steals being higher.

Texas Longhorn,
The NBA MVP is voted on by a League-selected panel of 125 reporters and broadcastors.

Good post... In the previous years, no candidate was chosen MVP if he missed the All-Star team. However, it will be interesting to see how high his name is on the list with this 15 winning-streak.

He could end up with a Top 10 finish if he plays well and we continue to do what we're doing, but there's no chance in hell he finishes in the Top 5, let alone win it haha.
