Actually. Not who is a better passer. But is Shaq passing ability even comparable to Brad Miller passing?

well, this is def. a valid comparison. i've actually heard people say that they're not even comparable. i take brad miller right now but shaq isn't far behind, def. comparable though.

I'll take Shaq, he may not have as many apg because he plays in the low post and his pass isn't always the one directly before the score, but he is a better passer. He finds the man who can swing it to the open shooter following his double team. Miller has never had to pass out of a double team his whole career so i don't see how he could be a better passer. If he played in the high post like Miller does he would average more apg.


you didn't say "better passer NOW", so my vote is for Shaq. Even if it is now, I think they are equals and no one is significantly better. i don't think you can ignore the ability to pass out of a double team that shaq has mastered and Miller has never had to deal with.

Obviously, its Miller. He ran the Princeton Offense to perfection... But Shaq is no slouch on that department either...He is probably the best passing C in terms of dishing out from a double team...

Miller by quite a bit.

Shaq deserves plenty of credit for being a solid passer out of the post, but he's not really a gifted passer. He's just a big guy who draws double-teams. He can see over the defense and usually find the open man.

Brad Miller racks up the assists without getting a double team. He's a point-center. He's the best passing big man since Divac.

Shaqs passing is one of the most underrated part of his game, and it has been ever since he got into the nba. One of the sole reasons why shaq has been so effective against the double team is because his passing ability has opened the court for his team mates. Plus it has always caused the 2nd defensive player to never truly commit to the double because of the high chance of shaq finding the open or cutting man.

Shaq is a very good passer out of the double team. But really, in every other aspect of passing Miller is better. If you want to talk about finding cutters from the high post, outlet passes to start fast breaks, alley-oop lobs, even drive and dish plays, Miller just wipes the floor clean with Shaq.

Anyone who's saying Miller is missing out one critical factor; everything you SEE from Miller is contingent on him being placed in the high post. Most of his passes really aren't all that great ITO degree of difficulty.

He is, don't get me wrong, a fine and highly skilled passer. He executes the 5-spot in the Princeton offense very well.

But those of you who are not taking Shaq seem to forget all the things Shaq used to do at Cole, in LSU, in Orlando, earlier in L.A.... you forget, perhaps because he hasn't played in the triangle for almost 4 years now, that Shaq is a brilliant passer when he's put in position to be one. He hits you in-stride with the bounce pass, he throws over-the-shoulder no-lookers, he makes the fundamental passes...

There's nothing Miller does as a passer that Shaq cannot and has not done in his career at some point.

What you DO notice is that Miller is often presented with more passing opportunities because he has a jumper and plays in an offense that is explicitly focused on using the 5-man as a playmaker.

If you want to talk about finding cutters from the high post, outlet passes to start fast breaks, alley-oop lobs, even drive and dish plays, Miller just wipes the floor clean with Shaq.

This is just bunk; completely ludicrous, most especially in light of what Shaq's presently doing in Phoenix.

Would have thought better of you, nate; structural differences in the nature of a team's offense dictate the difference in assist rate. Miller doesn't rate a double-team because he's not that good a scorer.

You can argue which one is better, but I don't see how anyone can say they aren't comparable. I give a slight edge to Miller, but Shaq is right there.
