Did the NBA dodge death in 1954? (Wilt to Celtics)
In that nice book "Wilt: Larger Than Life", there is a passage where Wilt (18 at that time) meets a guy called Red Auerbach. Red is so impressed by his game that he wants Wilt to go to a New England uni, so Red can draft him as a territorial pick. In reality, Wilt declined and went to Kansas. But just imagine for a sec that Wilt had said "yes" and would have joined the Cs in 1959. FYI, the Celtics drafted *cough* John Richter in that year. The depth chart would have been:
C - Wilt (HOF), Conley
PF - Russell (HOF), Heinsohn (HOF)
SF - Loscutoff, Ramsey (HOF)
SG - Sharman (HOF), Sam Jones (HOF)
PG - Cousy (HOF), KC Jones (HOF)
Coach - Red Auerbach
No Wilt-Russell rivalry, Cs win every game by 20 for THE NEXT TEN YEARS. Lakers would be swept 0-4 each year, Baylor going up against Wilt/Bill would be like a man trying to stop a tank with his bare fists.
The NBA back then was egalitarian, but I cannot think of a rule set that could limit Wilt AND Bill AND Sam Jones AND Cousy at the same time. Do you think the NBA would have *DIED*? After all, it is about $$$. Or how would they have coped?

no, because eventually Wilt would have went to Lakers because he liked the nightlife and he can freely date white women, which was pretty hard in Philly and I would assume, even harder in Boston.
That was from his book too, right?

Yes, you are right.

Well, I dunno about the dating. Don't forget he came to LA at age 30, tho he had numerous possibilities to be traded before. Also, Wilt had his large and charismatic ego. I don't think that he would have been racially discriminated (that) much in Beantown: Wilt awed people, it was hard to be racist whenever Wilt appeared. Also, Red was good in pushing people's buttons. If he could keep Russell content, he could have also coaxed Wilt to stay.

Chuck Norris could stop a tank with his bare hands
back to wilt: would he score 100 points. Last time I heard celtics were very VERY defensive minded (the reason they almost always beat wilt). isnt that why they won 11 or so rings? and I don't think they would go to him all the time.

It's not like Boston still didn't dominate with all those titles.

Nope. The Celts liked to run, so they would have put points on the board. However, it's doubtful that Wilt would have been able to score 100 points on that team, seeing as how Red Auerbach stressed team play over individual goals. In other words, there's no way they'd be throwing Wilt the ball everytime down court so he could go for 100.
