The OFFICIAL March Madness thread

Post#1 » by Grang33r » Tue Mar 11, 2008 11:24 pm

I think it'd be a good idea to have a March Madness thread. Anyone disagree? We can come here and give our thoughts on Championship week, on games, on selection Sunday, and thoughout the tournament. I know many people here love college hoops and many like Purdue, Indiana and ND and all three are in the big dance, it'd be cool to chat with people that opinions i respect about the games.

Any predictions?

Also, i started a Yahoo NCAA tournament pick-em game.

Only two Missouri teams are still alive (through the magical entertainment of conference tournaments): Missouri Tigers, and Saint Louis Billikens. Chances of their making the NCAA Tourney: slim and none. That's being generous.

As always, with Missouri teams out of the picture I will be rooting hard for any and all mid-majors that get the MoJo workin'. But so long as somebody beats Kansas, I'm good.

I think UCLA is the top team this year. But they are not as dominant as Florida was.

UCLA has been given 2 free wins by the refs.

Syracuse got destroyed and have no chance of making it. Oh well. They didn't deserve it anyways. I can't wait to see Indiana play and who they play! Eric Gordon Jr is gonna show the nation whats up.

Well, it gives you a good chance to finish in the top 3.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

Speaking strictly as a fan, this year's field is pretty depressing for me. Not only are there no Missouri teams (deservedly) but the MVC conference, which is usually what I turn to next, got hosed by the committee...no Illinois State?!? I'm flabbergasted that the MVC got ONE team in the field (and Drake deserved a better seed).

Also, Butler was absolutely shafted. A seven seed?!? That's horrible. And playing South Alabama IN ALABAMA...that's absolutely criminal.

Well, I'm for Drake and Butler in this year's tournament. And I hope Villanova and Oregon get pummeled...teams with RPIs in the 50s who finish in the bottom half of their conferences do NOT belong in the NCAA Tournament. :nonono:

OTOH, I cackled with glee when I saw that they put Georgetown in the same region with Kansas. GTown is the #2 seed I most wanted to see Kansas draw. I'm not a Hoyas fan at all, but that might change if they can put a beatdown on the Jaytweets.

Worst draw: Butler. The Bulldogs had an even better season (29-3) than last year's Sweet 16 team (27-6), yet drew a lower seed (No. 7, down from No. 5) and must face an equally dangerous mid-major (South Alabama) in the Jaguars' home state (Birmingham). And if they win that, they get Tennessee. Apparently, the committee did not enjoy its time in Indianapolis -- home of Butler.

I can't for the life of me understand how Butler got a #7 seed. This is a team that is better than last season's Sweet 16 team and should've been in the 4-6 seed range. There are 5 returning key seniors who are battle-tested, and they have a talented big man now in freshman Matt Howard. Not only did they get hozed with a #7 seed, they basically play a road game against South Alabama and were placed in the toughest regional in the whole bracket. We were the #10 ranked team in the country! Why even have rankings if they mean nothing? This means that there are at least 24 better teams than Butler in the eyes of the committee. If Butler can beat Southern Alabama, I think we'll give Tennessee a game...but even then, I can't envision Butler beating both Tennessee and Louisville back-to-back. Butler finished the season strong (winning the Horizon tourney) and had an RPI of 16. It just adds further insult to injury that another mid-major in Xavier was able to get a #3 seed, yet they didn't even win the A-10 tourney and had an RPI of 9.

Let's get more brackets.

Guys, what you guys think of this matchup?

Kansas State vs. USC? Micheal Beasley vs. OJ Mayo! wow is all i can say. 7pm on Thursday night. I think USC will win it, OJ Mayo is impressing me more and more. He hasn't gotten into trouble at all at USC.

Baylor is a good team too. I think they may give Purdue a run for their money.

Finishing Thur, 5pm Stanford vs. Cornell. I live near Cornell and this is their first NCAA birth since 1988. My buddy played basketball there 2 years ago, still goes to college there but left the team due to consistant injuries. I can't wait to see what Cornell does. Their a VERY VERY smart team. I thought for sure they would upset somebody because their defense is great, their all smart and they can pass very good.... but Stanford is as smart i think. And Cornell doesn't have anyone to guard Lopez.

Thoughts and comments on Indiana vs. Arkansas?

I watched the Arkansas vs. Georgia game on Sunday on espn2 and i wasn't all that much impressed with them. Obviously i had no clue that Indiana was going to play them, but it's a winable game for IU. Arkansas doesn't have the go-to-guy.

What you guys think?
