Status of Biedrins?

Hi guys, Sixers fan here, I was just curious is Biedrins a free agent after this season?

He seems like he would be a good fit on our team now that we are playing an up tempo style. If he is a free agent will he be a priority for GS to bring back or do they see him as expendable now with Brandan Wright in the mix?

He's a restricted Free Agent. Warriors can - and will - match any offer.

Sixers would need to agree on salary with Biedrins & then arrange a sign & trade.

Warriors can refuse the trade offer - as they have done already with numerous offers for Pietrus

the laughter has more to do with Nellie nailing B. Wright to the bench for most of this season. and actually part of the reason we traded Jrich to the Bobcats for their pick was to free up money this summer to resign Biedrins and Ellis. So Biedrins is definitely in the W's long term plans...

Biedrins is not expendable. The Warriors will offer him market value for a 22 year old big man averaging close to a double-double.

Yeah...Biedrins may be the least expendable Warrior. We have no "plan B at C. We struggled for about 20 years trying (with no success) to find a C as good as Biedrins is NOW. At his age..he's sure to get better over the next dozen years.

Sixers fans seem to be interested in Goose, eh?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say no other team extends him an offer, because they'd feel they're just wasting their time.

My only hope is that the Warriors and Goose's agent can quickly agree to a fair (to both sides) deal... that may be harder if there isn't a specific offer on the table to counter.

but arent Monta, Biedrins, and B. Diddy free agents?

Lets say Memhpis gives Monta a HUGE contract and the Warriors are forced to match..doesnt that mess up their plans and maybe they lose Biedrins?... Just asking, i dont really know the situation.

That would obviously present some complications and the Warriors would then have to decide between on or the other. Or they'd probably trade Biedrins for a draft pick sort of like they did with JRich.

But I just don't see the Grizz salary dumping Pau Gasol just so they could then use the money they saved to overpay a 6'3" combo guard, and that's pretty much the bottom line.

The Grizz were doing a payroll dump. They wanted to shave salary to supposedly make it more attractive for someone to buy the team.

I don't know if that was the wisest thing to do, but following up that trade by overpaying for someone else's FA pretty much destroys the original purpose of the Gasol trade.

uhmm, since the Warriors are over the cap and will be under the cap by a significant amount, the Warriors will have no trouble signing Andris and Ellis... and Baron only becomes a FA if he opts out, so then we would still have money

Warriors are in an excellent position this offseason and wont lose either of those 3

Since these guys are restricted, the only question is how will the luxury tax effect their plans? I continue to believe that Cohan will pay the tax, since the Warriors are good, young, and improving.

But someone could make it painful by signing Monta and Biedrins to big, front-loaded offer sheets. Since we're paying Foyle $7 mil next year (and then he essentially comes off), and Baron, if he doesn't opt out (which I'm betting will be the case), will make almost $18 mil, taking Monta and Biedrins' biggest cap hit next year would hurt - conceivably that could mean paying almost $50 mil on three players next year (when you count paying Foyle and him not playing here). That doesn't leave much for the other guys, next year at least.

If Baron would opt out and then re-sign with the Warriors at less per year, but over say three years, that could help some.

But my prediction - no matter what they cost, Biedrins and Monta will be back. It's just a matter of how much it will screw up our cap situation and how much lux tax will be spent next season.
