OT: Shane Battier

Post#1 » by magicfanejc42 » Sun Mar 16, 2008 9:43 pm

So, watching the Lakers Rockets game, I never realized how good a defender Battier was...I have always heard about it, but wow..He has good feet and PERFECT hands... The man somehow gets his hand between the arms of the shooter and in his face EVERY time..It's insane...Most players go for the block or try to make them change their shot, he covers their eyes..We need a perimeter defender like him.

yea i noticed that too. If you can learn how to do it sticking your hand straight up in the shooter's face as he goes up is incredibly distracting and can mess them up big time.

Double OT: The Rockets arena announcer sounds similar to Paul Porter.

Shane was simply other worldly on defense today. Dont think ive seen a better defensive game played all season.

9 times out of 10, Kobe will dominate and drop 40 on Battier. Battier just happened to have a really good defensive game.

We should sign him to the max.

I would have rather had Rudy Gay.

why? what has Rudy Gay done in this league? Nothing.
Battier is finally getting some of the credit he deserves. This is the type of guy you need on championship teams.

Rudy Gay looks like he is going to be a superstar, IMO.

You need guys to be the 14th and 15th men on a championship team too, but I'd rather take the better players on the team.

Every time I see him placing a hand on someones face like he did tonight a couple of times on Kobe I'm expecting him to accidentaly slap the guy hard in the face.
Seriously, he had a fantastic defensive game, again, and he should get some recognition for it.

Agreed. In this day too many players are praised for a flashy game which are devoid of fundamentals.

Batty-eh has them in buckets full. He doesn't score 20+ points a game so too many think he's a scrub.

You're right. But looking at it from the Rockets perspective, they had their superstars in T-Mac and Yao, Rudy Gay would've been duplicating talent.

Battier is a defensive stud, though. Can take charges like no other.

i'm almost positive kobe has 3 50 point games against the rockets, the most against any team. the best defender cant stop nba guys when they are on.

battier for gay is going to to be one of the worst trades ever. gay is better than him now, and will be a lock down defender, and he's 21.

gay will be a superstar in a few years averaging over 25 a game.

Gay is not a superstar unless you are talking his dunks and his dunks didn't get him to the second round.
He is more mouth then says he can do this and that except he has not put up yet. Right now he looks good with Memphis, but considering the talent anything would look good in Memphis. I am saying he looks good on offence not defense.
Battier has proven over and over again he is your player when it comes do defense and yes he can actually score as well. He will never quit on you as well.
So I think that you will find Gay staying in Memphis for the time being the Rockets seem very happy that Shane is with them and being a number one defensive stopper.
