Allan Houston?
Ye gads, another old guy.... Well, he could certainly shoot in his day but even healthy, he was always a terrible defender.

I think he just came in to ask if they can help him in any way since we're practically gods at helping players recover from injuries.
I suspect it's just a health evaluation, of course, but there's a little voice in the back of my head...
To be frank, I don't even remember if he's a valid signing for the playoffs at this date, so it's not a huge concern, I just thought it was funny.
It makes less sense the more I think about it, given that they recently acquired Giricek, though, so probably not.
I was just like "Oh look, an Allan Houston sighting!" and I remembered that he tried to make a comeback this year.

Must be true, if it's a rumor you read on Hoopshype.

Houston? Really?? I remember him trying hard but largely sucking for lack of body mass and unimpressive lateral quicks.
EDIT: I remember him not being a great defender in Detroit, that's for sure. I think it's easier to mistake his impact on New York because JVG generally ran a very good team defensive concept, accommodating individuals a little better. Sprewell was a good defender and they had Ewing or Camby, Oakley, Kurt Thomas, etc.

March 1st was the deadline for that. just a little late for either Houston or the Suns to think about.

Yeah, I thought so... my brain is only half here today on account of this essay on which I'm working and the incredibly late nights I've pulled the last few days.

Not that it really matters, but the March 1st deadline was for players that HAD to be waived by in order to be picked up for the playoffs. Since Allan was not with a team, not sure if there is a rule for him.

^ you and godoggo are correct, houston is eligible to play in the playoffs if a team signed him (though i totally believe this workout was at allans request not the suns, but i believe there is another deadline also that players need to be signed by to be active for the playoff roster, but i think its only like 3 days before the regular season ends
for the record, pike is out of contract, as is marks at the end of the season, if houston had something left in the tank, i would take him

The EVT article made it sound like it was a casual visit with the training staff while AH was visiting GH. Seems like it was just a courtesy exam that could judge if he could ever play again. By next year he will be 38. I don't like his chances.
How does that even work? Wouldn't you have to be an employee of the team for the team medical staff to work on you? The way medical liability is he probably had to fill out a stack of paperwork before they could even touch him.

you guys acquired Shaq, which makes me want you guys to win a championship. If you got Houston on your team I would hope you never make the playoffs ever again, since he screwed the Knicks by not accepting medical retirement. He is cursed, don't sign him, he will snap his knees in half and end up falling onto Amare's knee in the process ruining his career.

For those who may had missed this from the Peoples Republic of Arizona:
Former NBA star Allan Houston visited Thursday with the Suns athletic trainers, watched practice with Suns Assistant General Manager Vinny Del Negro and got in an afternoon workout on the court after Phoenix's practice.
It's all exploratory. Houston is visiting former Detroit teammate Grant Hill and wanted to learn what the Suns' renowned medical staff, including National Academy of Sports Medicine President Mike Clark, have done to revive injury-plagued players.
There is a possibility that Houston would return to play next season and the Suns would consider him. Houston turns 37 this month and was considering Phoenix for his fall comeback from a 2005 retirement. He signed with New York but called off his return after one preseason game.
