I'm not saying the Blazers should necessarily make this trade, but I think the "screwing up the cap" comments are a little overblown IMO. How many guys that are set to become UFAs in the summer of 09 are better than Maggette? I know as of now guys like Okafor, Deng and Iggy are set to be UFAs then, but there's a pretty solid chance they all get locked up before then.

There are 2 questions I have about this deal...
First, what kind of deal is Maggette signing? I'm assuming it must start around 9 mil... Is that correct? I haven't really delved deep into the numbers yet, but I believe if the contract is structured properly, Portland can still have some cap space in 09.
Secondly, what's the restrictions on the "future Minn First". That's a fairly vague description of the asset.

This trade is improbable, as Maggette cannot be signed until July 1st almost a week after the draft.
So unless there is some sort of wink-wink draft pick that LAC asks Portland to make for them, the deal the pick to LAC. Why would Portland risk drafting a player that they may not want just to have a chance to get Maggette?
