Tnt Criticizes dirk for not fighting back.

in a reg season game i might agree, but i think dirk showed great discipline by not escalating the situation. because it is dirk, hes getting the soft label slapped on him but i remember when anthony peeler decked KG in the chest and kg just looked at him.

i think if dirk slapped his hands down or shoved him the situation would have turned into a disaster for both teams. im not saying dirk is hardcore in this situation but he definitely doesnt deserve to be criticized here.

what are realgms thoughts?

i think dirk shouldve done something to defend himself or at least one of his teammates, but i think west is a punk for doing that. I saw the replay many times and didnt see what dirk did to him, west was just trying to get in his head.

Apparently, Dirk hit West accidentally that was cause for a cut lip. I was proud of Dirk for keeping it cool.

"I love those guys, but they are living in 1998," Mark Cuban said. "In this year's NBA, you retaliate, you get suspended. That's happened to us too many times. The NBA saw it, and it's up to them to deal with it."

My thoughts as well.....besides, when a guy retaliates you know that you've gotten to his head.

I think its classless to use cheap, dirty fouls to get revenge. West is showing himself to be classless, but don't stoop to his level. If Dirk is physically threatened he should defend himself, but he wasn't, he was more mature.

If Dirk had played better in last years playoffs, this criticism would be almost non existent.

OT: I also hate it when MLB analysts promote opposing pitchers going after batters in retaliation, I think its equally classless and immature.

Dirk's flopping in the game set the tone:

flopped to get a T called on Chandler
fouled Paul in frustration and hit him in the face
flopped after a foul call and hit West in the face

West got in his face. Good. Maybe Dirk will refrain from acting like an old woman and/or an orangutan in game 2.

Maybe Chandler shouldn't push someone after the whistle, then he won't get called for a technical.

Oh yeah that's right. Dirk's a European who has a label for being soft, so when he accidentally hits someone in the face while getting hit, he's flopping. It's cool if Paul uses his elbows and arms when going around a defense though...intentionally.

Coz that's hardcore. That's tough. Gangsta baby.

Good for Dirk. Walk away. Show you actually have class. Do your battle on the court, if your team losses, at least you fought like a man, instead of some teenage kid playing in the playground that got hit inadvertently while playing a physical and contact sport such as basketball, and then decided to show he's tough by starting a fight.

I thought Dirk handled himself pretty well in that situation, hopefully the league fines David West for his non-sportsmanship like behavior.

why would Dirk retaliate and possibly get suspended a game when his team is already the underdogs? Dirk made the right choice.

LOL.

I have seen the clip and it's a total non situation.

It is funny how KG was praised by everyone that he didn't retaliate against Peeler, but Dirk now again is labeled as soft for not retaliating.

pushing and shoving is part of playoff basketball. Chandler doesn't get a T there if Dirk doesn't act like Kimbo Slice just uppercut him.

funny you mention after the whistle though, because thats exactly what West was reacting to. Dirk's orangutan-esque arm flailing after the whistle.

Uh...getting a technical IS part of pushing and shoving in a basketball game.

I guess Dirk should have tried and made sure that he avoided hitting Chandler as he was getting tripped to the floor. Right, that definitely should have been his priority first.

Uh, they commented on how he flopped AFTER the push.

Seriously, are all NO fans this bad? I'm tempted to make a comment that would make a lot of good and decent New Orleans citizens feel disrespected based on the comments I'm seeing from these Hornets fans on the boards.

and the flop AFTER the push was what got the technical called.

which NO fans? me? there aren't too many around these parts, and yeah, you probably won't find many who have heartfelt reactions towards Dirk's thespian side.

Cuban's response was perfect IMO. Those TNT guys live in a time when that was allowed. If Dirk does something and it escalates he is gonna get suspended.

So let me get this straight. Dirk was fouled. Dirk inadvertently hits Chandler. Chandler pushes Dirk. Technical called on Chandler. Dirk flops to the ground as if he was thrown down by Shaq.

Yep, you're right. Chandler definitely did the right thing here.
