hate/respect..
everybody has teams that they hate..I don't see how anybody can be a hardcore hoops fan without hating a rival of their team, or any team in general..I wanna get an idea of the most widely respect players among sports fans..so who are some players that you have respect for, despite playing on teams that you hate?..

I hated Dallas ever since they took out the Spurs in '06 but now I feel sorry for them as they are getting their ass served to them on a plate by Paul and the Hornets. I respect Dirk even though people call him soft and mentally fragile. He was the difference in that series and came up with one of the biggest shots in his career with the and-1 on Bowen in the last seconds of that series. I hate everyone else on that Dallas team though.

I feel bad for Dirk because of everything that's happened to him since he has been with Dallas and now they are getting posterized by the Hornets... However, I hate him when Dallas starts making runs and he starts flopping (like Ginobli and Parker).. However I start to feel bad for him again when he starts losing.. its a deadly cycle.
Another perfect example of this is how I felt about Kobe and the Lakers... until they got Gasol

Spurs and Lakers have been rivals for some long time now but I still have lot's of respect to Spurs and Tim Duncan. I think Duncan is one of the greatest bball players of all time and I even like watching Spurs PO games because they are making history right now and for some time so. They have great dynasty.

Tim Duncan (even though I hate his constant "what did I do" look whenever he's called for a foul)
Kobe Bryant (I have respect for his game)
Mutumbo (other than his stupid finger wag)
Allen Iverson (I wish he played for the Jazz. The guy gives it his all. I don't like his offensive flops, but hey, no biggie)
Chris Paul (I know a lot of Jazz fans hate him due to the fact that everyone said that the Jazz messed up by picked Deron, but I have no problems whatsoever with Paul)

I hate the Suns mostly Shaq but also Raja, Diaw, Barbosa and maybe a couple others.
But I have the utmost respect for Steve Nash and I think he's the best shooter in the NBA and one of the best all time.
I probably dislike the Spurs but respect Duncan and Manu. I would love to have some of those Spurs players on my team.

I actually don't hate anyone really, but those two words brought to mind an interview I heard with Robert Parish. He was asked if he hated the Lakers, he said he respected the Lakers, he hated the Pistons. Then he thought about it and said actually he respected all of the Pistons except Laimbeer, he hated Laimbeer.

do you have a favorite team? because I could understand not hating another team or players if you didn't have a favorite team, but I'd find it strange if you did, and didn't hate anybody..
I've tried not to hate the Lakers, Suns and Mavs over the years, but it's just impossible..every time the Spurs play against them, it just reminds me how much I hate those 3 teams..
