OT - do any of you feel sorry for McGrady?
It looks like the Rockets are heading for another early playoff exit. Granted a lot of people think that if Yao hadn't gotten hurt they would have gotten out of the first round this year, mabye it's true, mabye it's not. Who knows the West is really good. But do you feel sorry for him? He's finally starting to decline, his ppg average is down to just over 20 and he's obviously on the downswing now. At this rate he could go his entire career without winning a playoff series which would destroy his legacy because all of us know that some years ago he was a top 3 player in the NBA.

Not really, he had his chances to win 1st round series if he never ends up doing it. What will hurt his legacy is that when you talk about great players that come and go you talk about which ones won championships and which ones did not. The only thing anyone will say about Tmac is if he did or didn't get out of the 1st round.

He can opt out next summer I believe. If nothing changes with his team...he'll opt out...take the 2nd or 3rd scorer gig with another team and find his playoff success. I guess you can say he'll never win a playoff series being the number 1 option. But I don't think overall he'll go without winning a series.

Yeah, he really has a tough life!
I think he means relative to basketball and sports dude. I honestly don't think people have to state that before they make these types of posts but apparently we still have quite a few lesser individuals roaming these boards that don't understand that it is implied.

Relative to basketball, yeah i feel really bad for him. He is one of the good guys in this league and a top 10 player when healthy. He gives it his all every series he has played. It just seems like something always crops up to deny him, i think he will eventually win one as a no2 or 3 option towards the tail end of his career

Not at all. Everyone talks about how he has always been in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Tell me this then, how do you go up 3-1 against Detroit then lose the next three?
How do you win two in Dallas to start the series then come home and lose in 7?
How do you have HCA in two rounds against the Jazz, one of them at full strength and lose game 7 at home? And then the next year lose your first two games in your building (albeit with injuries)?
The guy has had so many chances and he blows them every time. He's a choke artist, probably the finest the NBA has ever seen.

Its called karma.
I dont feel sorry for him. He wanted his big man and a contender, and well, he got it. Be carefull what you wish for. Just to think he could playing along side Dwight, but he wanted to win 4 years ago. Guess things dont always work out the way you want.

That's the ignorant response, but it's ultimately the label that he'll receive. He is a great playoff performer whether fans want to agree or not. Being the underdog of every playoff series and able to push them to game 7s with the joke of a supporting cast he has had, I do feel sorry for him because that's the story fans will never listen to.
The "It Takes Five" ads mean the most when talking about McGrady. He's always been the one who provides the leadership that makes his team fight in the playoffs. His team wouldn't even be in the playoffs without him in the first place. He has accomplished a lot of personal glory, but the absense of his teammates when it matters most will always hold him back.
I'm not a fan of the Rockets, nor was I a fan of McGrady. His maturity over the years, taking all the blame for every series that he's shown up to but his team didn't, has made me appreciate him as a person and as a basketball player more.
I really hope he opts out to be a the 2nd or 3rd option for another team.

Okay. What you have to understand is that one player can't win every game for you. Every playoff victory was won because of him and his teammates. The same is said for every lost.
McGrady shows up and plays hard in the playoffs and in every series he's been involved in. A choke-artist? What games have you been seeing? A choker is someone I'd label who is UNDERPERFORMING. Has he been?

I don't know why I'm still defending him. Some fans just don't appreciate his talent and what he's brought to the game.
Sure, he left Orlando. I would too if the GM was an idiot who keeps getting worse every year. How do you tell your superstar that he won't be receiving any better help and that he'll have to wait a couple more years for a HS player to develop? McGrady was already at the top of his game. Surrounded by scrubs and a terrible coach at the time. That's a terrible situation to be in. Obviously nobody knew Dwight would develop so quickly and the new GM would actually make sensible decisions. Orlando is in a very good situation right now and their fans should get over the past and appreciate what he has done for the Magic.
The same thing is applied to Raptor fans who still hate on Vince (and some on TMac still... lol.). Get over it, and be thankful a great player of that caliber played for your team and you got to see him play nightly.

Why does any of that stop you from feeling bad for him? That is directed towards anyone who feels like that.
I personally feel bad for him and I am a Magic fan.
Edit: just noticed, why exactly is this off topic?

Because they never should have won 3 games in that series anyways. Detroit was in the conference finals every year. Its no wonder they got blown out in 5,6, & 7. It was T-Mac vs. Billups, Hamiltion, Prince, & Sheed.

Get out of here with that bullsh*t! Dallas was one of the best teams at that time. Do you even remember the scrubs we had out there with T-Mac and Yao? You can honestly expect to win with Ryan F*cking Bowen and Scott Padgett playing POWER FOWARD!!! And in the backcourt we had Sura (who was a warrior) and DAVID WESLEY!!! The man couldnt hit water if he threw the damn ball into the ocean. If that wasnt bad enough, do you remember Wesley trying to guard Jerry Stackhouse?!?!?

Everybody knows that last years series was the most evenly matched in all of the playoff matchups as far as Records and player matchups. Although Houston is deeper this year, lets not forget we are missing the best center in the league and our two best PGs are watching the game in a suit. Those are KEY injuries, especially Yao. There is no way Utah would be as successful if D-Will or Boozer were done for the year like Yao is.

Definatley not a choke artist. Has only been the favorite to win a playoff series once in his career and that was last year was debateable. I dont care if we had HCA or not this series, the outcome should still be the same without Yao Ming.
